In honor of the annual beacon lighting tonite, a shot of Split Rock with the beacon lit. Split Rock has been decommissioned since 1969. It is only lit on November 10 to commemerate the sinking of the Fitzy and occasionally throught the summer.
Ben: Beautiful image. I had forgotten about this anniversary -- but remember it well from my college days in the Michigan UP. Are you headed up there to shoot tonight?
PS Sorry I missed you on your trip to the NE, but you made a wise decision not to come up further north, as the colors were not as strong this year, and left early.
Bart, yes I am shooting it tonite. I will be heading up the shore to the lighthouse shortly. My trip to NY was jam packed. I didn't get to everything that I wanted to shoot. The colors were not that great anywhere I went this year. They were decent in Watkins Glen and past peak in the Ithaca area parks. Half of the trees in Ricketts Glen were bare. I do wish that I had time to at least make up your way for a day, but it just wasn't in the cards. Hopefully we can catch up on my next trip out there...unless you venture up to the north shore of the big lake.
