Hi All, I've been lurking here for quite a while. I've shot beside a number of frequent posters on the board and figured it was about time I shared some of my stuff.
Just got back from shooting a cheer meet for Hammy in Dallas. Lots of fun. BlueReptile, Manny and myself were shooting the lower level stage, but finished before the bigger arena was done, so we got to shoot that last few L5 teams there. Here are a few of my shots from the L5's. All shot with a Mark III and Mikey. C&C welcome!
Thanks for posting. Great expressions and athleticism. You did a great job of getting peak action. Cheer looks like a lot of fun to shoot. Many of the high school sport I shoot, you may not get a really athletic shot all day.
I hang out here most of the time myself. Mainly post when I have a question. I noticed many of these shots were at f2.0 and ISO 2500. My question is probably a stupid one but do you notice much, if any difference between ISO 2500 and 3200? For that matter 2000 and 3200?
Just a tiny bit more action than PW Luke. A couple of hundred suspended stage lights and a massive backdrop was a little more than we've been seeing as well. Unfortunately the organizers thought the lower level girls only deserved doing their routines in a cave .
Ben, there's not much difference between ISO 2500 and 3200, nor between f/1.8 and f/2.0. I started shooting at ISO 3200 at f/1.8 and 1/1250 sec, but the althetes were getting over exposed in areas. I was happy with 1/1250 sec, so I dialed back the ISO 1/3 stop then closed down the aperature 1/3 stop at which point I was happy with the exposure. What would be really useful is having 1/3 stop settings between ISO 3200 and 6400 (and of course ISO's above 6400), as the newer bodies have.
