Right now some might think it is kinda neat and want to buy it, but I guess when the first two lenses are available which use the *same* sensors, the feeling will go away. This is wasteful, even though it is creative.
Yeah, I must agree. I don't see any advantage in having the zoom unit there,
as Ricoh GR III using the same sensor is much smaller. So they will explore the larger
sensor units and then people will notice - why do I need to pay for the same sensor every
time I want a different lens?
Plus you buy a lens "for ever", the sensor is becoming old after a couple of years...
That means you will need to rebuy the same lens just to have a better sensor.
As expected for Ricoh, the US prices have turned out to be pretty obscene.
Body + 50/2.5 = $1380
Body + zoom = $1000 (this would essentially be just a GX300)
I could get behind this if they had a smaller, faster, wider and cheaper prime. The current prime makes the camera half an inch longer than the 20/1.7+GF1.
It looks like the next module is going to be a superzoom.
As someone else said, Sigma should make DP1 and DP2 modules for this system if they can figure out the AF speed.
Yeah........don't see the point of this at all. In the end, it makes the lens heavier having the sensor attached to them. They should have stuck that CMOS sensor in the body/remove the mirror and they have a winner in their hands!!

A winner from the consumer's point of view would be to maybe offer 3 different size sensors (A, B, and C) that aren't bundled with the lens, sure, but that would also mean less profit for them. Again the marketing genius here is that every time you buy a lens/sensor, you're likely getting something you don't need.
Since this is the alt forum, I'm surprised no-one has suggested the possibility of Ricoh doing something really interesting by releasing a module which is just an APS-C sensor with a simple lens mount complete with available adapters. They could then just release new sensor modules as sensor technology improves, possibly with some smaller and larger sensors as well. This would walk all over micro Four Thirds for me, the larger sensor means useful wideangles.
Say the macro lens is amazing; one thing I see as a paradox is this:
A. sensor enhancements become available, but the lens is not re-introduced with a new one.
B. the lens IS re-introduced with a new one, and you now have the same great lens in a great sensor and an older sensor.
Is this not a prime example of disposable technology-gone-wild? Aren't we making enough things obsolete as it is?
...sorry about the rant , this just seems ridiculous from this perspective!

Add a handgrip and rear buttons /LCD and you have an m43-ish!

I agree, and if they led with this foot, by say having an MFT or an M Mount adapter I would be much more excited about this.

I think a lot of this system's real value will be diminished if the speed of processing and AF does not hold up to current DSLR and M43 standards
Long term, I think this is one of the things that will kill the system or at least force body upgrades. A 25MP sensor isn't worth much if your image pipeline cannot write images to disk fast enough. That's the thing with dSLR upgrades - it's not like they just stick a new sensor in and are done with it - everything in the pipeline has to change to accommodate higher data transfer rates, etc.

This would be very nice, but seems unlikely because there would be NO "native" lenses for this basically any lens you use would be "alt". Another problem is that it would encourage people NOT to buy Ricoh's lenses.
Another thing to consider is that body technology also advances along with (maybe slower than) sensor technology. The GRD1, 2, and 3 all have very similar bodies, but LCD technology, battery technology, storage technology, and even EVF technology all change fairly rapidly. What if we end up with 25mp sensors on this old body that can't handle pushing all that data to an SD card fast enough?
Seems like a GX300 (presumably what they'd release if it weren't for the GXR) and DP2-style camera together would be cheaper than this kit and not take up much more space. Plus you'd end up with 2 cameras versus 1.5.

Yeah, I agree. I didn't say it was likely, but just something interesting to speculate and talk about. I mean it would even be interesting to take the macro unit they announced, hack off the lens and install a mFT mount. Assuming it wouldn't have a fit and refuse to take photos afterwards.
I think that this camera is Genius, no obsolescence. There is nothing to stop Ricoh from making a Module with a bayonet (of any Brand) mount in the future. I bet that they bring their legendary 28mm with a FF sensor at some point.
At the very least they should have had a sensor module with some sort of lens mount, even if it was a new proprietary mount. As long as the sensor and the lens are one unit, this is just a more hokey and expensive way of buying multiple cameras.

More like it's forced lens obsolescence. Your lens is obsolete when the sensor/processing is obsolete, unlike my m43 system where I simply upgrade the body and continue using my lenses.
