I don't post on here often with my own pictures. This weekend I shot an engagement session for a couple that according to them "were dreading" getting their pictures taken. I made the best of the situation, at least tried to. They told me they hated their fake smiles. At the end they told me that it was not as bad as their thought it would be. Please let me know what you think.
I think that session is very nice, technically speaking, but their is definitely a lack of emotion from them that leaves much to be desired. I like the aired out compositions on some, but would like to see them pushed out to more of a rule of thirds or beyond, rather than in the center of the frame (maybe for one or two?). Keep posting, by the way.
I happen to like this series a lot. Number 6 is my fav. I think the lack of "fake" smiles actually makes this feel a bit more like a fashion shoot. I think they'll be happy with what you've done.
Thank you very much for all of your comments. I agree with the fact that the less smiley pictures make it look a bit more fashiony. That was really kind of the look that I was going for. I could tell when I would tell them to smile they felt a bit awkward but when I would crack and joke and they would smile it was much more natural!
2 is my favorite. I like the lighting and their expressions.
3 - cute shot. She looks a tad too cool. I'm more into warm skin tones than cool skin tones, though, so take that with a grain of salt.
4 - I like leg shots. I never do them myself (I think I forget), but I like them
5 & 6 - love these two. Perfect use of natural backlight. Great expressions. I love how he's looking at the camera and she has her eyes closed. There's a peacefulness about it.
7 - great composition and exposure! Watch the crop on this - it's calling for a unique crop and perfect symetry. I would make the outer windows even.
8 - very fashiony, lovely skin tones, nice shot.
9 - Awesome shot. It would be slightly better through symmetry. This shot is dying for some PS transformation love. Or it just needs a slight tilt and crop. email if you have questions about using the free transform or perspective transform.
10 - I like the moment and the leading lines, but the skin looks a tad drab. Up the luminance and warm it up a tad.
11 - Very cute moment. Watch the light on her hair. This might have been a tad nicer shot from just right of where you are - with more backlight than back/side light. Otherwise it's very nice!
12 - awesome processing! I like how you positioned them! If you ever get a chance to go back, try seeing putting them to the left of the picture, and including as many arches as you can. I'm just interested to see how that would turn out.
