p.1 #1 · D700 hotshoe replacement

Have been having the problem where my sb900 has been going haywire (pulsing like in modeling flash, not firing, etc.) without warning and from what I have read the solution is to have Nikon replace the camera hotshoe. My D700 is now a couple of months out of warranty, has anyone here replaced the hotshoe? Any idea of the cost involved?

Mine is in the shop now. Being fixed under warranty.

Has anyone had the issue that was NOT using a 900 ?

Had my hotshoe replace by Nikon, it cost around $270. I also asked for a focus adjustment, which they did with a cleanup

My guess is that's their minimum service price for out of warranty stuff. I had a lens worked on months ago for a similar price.

My suggestion, ask for clean up, focus diagnosis in addition to hotshoe repair

My only beef was, they didn't include the plastic doohickey in the new hotshoe; without it, the hotshoe bent.

Thanks Rags. I have it packed up ready to go back and I did ask for a clean/check as well. I can live with a price tag around the $300 mark, better than buying a new body. I don't think I have ever heard of a D2x or like having this problem. Must be a stronger shoe on the D2X/D3 bodies.

i had this issue on a few d700 bodies. all which are now fixed and working great. the new hotshoe feels stronger and thicker. the issue happened on the sb800 and 600 as well as the 900. so we realized it was the camera and not just the flashes.

good luck... our d700 hot 79,000 pics before it went in to be fixed and now hit 115,000 since being back. works great. love that camera.

just cant beat being able to shoot at iso 6400 and get a nice clean image

Back from repair, replaced hotshoe and the usual clean and check.. replaced some rubber as well. Camera has near 70K on it.

Fixed under warranty, the warranty was to expire in one day when I sent it in.

Still wondering if anyone had this issue and did NOT use a 900. I have 2 800's and really am not comfortable with throwing on the 900 on. The problem seemed to have started when I got my 900. So far now its an off camera flash only.

Not sure if the hotshoe is any stronger, looks the same.
