p.1 #1 · CANON ML-3 ringflash?

Hello to all,

My dad gave me his old ML-3 ringflash. Does anyone know if it is compatible with my digital bodies 5D, 1Ds and 1D2 ?

Many thanks.

Young.

It will only fire at full power.

Canon film cameras metered off the film in real time. The shutter would open and expose the film, the flash would fire and the metering would cut the flash when enough light was output. When a film-era flash is used on digital it fires, but never gets the command to end the flash burst and winds up firing at full power.

WIth flashes like the EZ series a workaround is to put ND gels over the flash to cut output, but its not very practical.

So despite his best intentions Dad gave you paperweight.

Chuck

Are there any setting on the flash?

I was reading the docs and it said it had a thyristor based Auto mode. That would work fine on your camera (if it really is there).

on edit, looks like the A-ttl mode will not work either, that sucks.

There's almost no settings. Just a button to chose fullor half flash and a 0-1 button .... it sucks...
