+1....and how long does it last? Does it vary by which "battery" you use?
No, doesn't change. There's a 50w bulb and a 100w bulb.
In darkness 100w, at about 10 feet away, a person will meter around ISO 200, 1/100, 2.8
Example below (on right) is about ISO 400, 2.0... Light was at about 50-75% brightness... http://hofferphotography.com/blogpics/WilliamsW-17.jpg
In daylight, 100w is enough to add some fill from close distances 5-10 feet, but will usually cause mixed lighting. Video light seems to work best at night, but here's an example of mixed daytime light... http://hofferphotography.com/blogpics/Ball-27.jpg
This thing has been on my shopping list for a few months now. There were times I was very close to actually purchasing it, but held off. After seeing all these examples, I think this will be a welcome addition to the kit.
Are these lights big on diffusers? If so, what diffusion methods are you guys using? In some of the examples posted, the light seems a little too harsh for my personal taste. It would be awesome if there were a few diffusers available.

Closer to 30, but 30 minutes is a LONG time considering that you're shutter goes for 1/100 of a second.
Ok, i'm thinking from a purely "leave it on" standpoint. I was thinking of getting the Elinchrom Quadra system with the LED modeling light...but this ID light has me thinkin.....

I hate to continue this thread, but I have two questions, if anyone can answer:
1) Is the cigarette lighter adapter or the four-pin adapter better?
2) The NiMH battery is more expensive and does not last quite as long as the lead acid battery, but is much lighter. Is it worth purchasing that battery instead?

I bought the NiMH battery because of the weight and have been happy with it. It doesn't really like cold weather, but I think I can deal with that.
Ooh - thanks for letting me know. Since I live in FL, and the lowest temp I'll be shooting in will be something like 60 degrees, I don't think the cold will be a problem. Unless it's for that one time I need to shoot somewhere really cold =(

Another really dumb question. We have the light picked out but I'm confused between the 4-pin XLR connector and cigarette lighter connector. Is one better than the other?

I think the batteries for the cigarette lighter are just cheaper aren't they?

Can you not gel LED lights to get a warmer look?
Thats what I do with my 1x1 litepanel. They also have tungsten versions of all of their lights along with a bi-color version that has a set of daylight and a set of tungsten leds built in and you can adjust the fade on both until you have the ideal color temp.
It also lasts about 3 hours using a IDX E-10 battery. The whole thing weighs about 7 lbs and it is all one unit with no cables. It also stays nice and cool. Great for reception and evening portraits with the bride and groom.

Tony once posted a shot that almost made me buy a video light THAT DAY. Of course I realized that (1) I was not Tony Hoffer, so why bother trying to duplicate it and (2) I wasn't about to buy a piece of equipment to copy someone else's shot. It's still one of the best images I've ever seen posted here...
