That's rough, dude! Sorry to hear that. Have you checked out the Pelican cases? Strong (but heavy) as hell and waterproof. They have a carry on size but it won't hold all that gear.

I'm just laughing at the posts here. "After reading this, I'm never flying (U.S. Airways)." Because no other airline will EVER mess up my equipment and not cover me." Riiigghhht.
You know, this is really a stupid comment. I mean...hella stupid.
If a restaurant fails a report card, do you call people idiots for not eating there anymore? I mean, other restaurants they eat at instead could fail a report card in the future too, so why bother?
Your logic is flawed.
Back to this case: What I know is that US Airways has failed Sam by causing him unnecessary grief, then decide to NOT hold themselves accountable in any way for what happened.
Other airlines might treat me the same way in a similar situation, but until there is a problem they'll be given the benefit of the doubt, and US Airways won't even be given a chance.

OP, insurance. FTW.
Not sure of the precise legal situation in the states but over here I believe you lose any insurance coverage on camera equipment put into the hold, hence why Sam wanted, intended and tried to carry it on board and made a big fuss about not being able to stow it in sight...you're kind of making out like he chucked it on the conveyor at check-in and went "nnnnaaaaaaah it'll be fine"

Insurance is great, $500 deductibles are not. Nor are rises in premiums. Also, being charged for random tickets seems to be the norm on US Air for me, maybe my browser is screwed up. I try and stick with the Canadian ones when I can (especially Westjet)
Hope you're getting by with what you have left Sam. Canon trips are no fun.
Hey--I don't know if you've seen this or not, but at the end of this article on Time.com, there's a link to "The Avenger," who might get you even more publicity . . .
As far as insurance, I have a $0 deductible for my camera equipment. This US Airways situation is fail, indeed. However, I've flown and been screwed or inconvenienced on probably every single airline.
Not flying them again because I wasn't covered isn't the way to solve things was all my point intended.
They probably clocked the Macbook Pro and dunked the rest of the bag in Water. To be honest this is a waste of water when the mac is not in the bag ;-)
Seriously though this is just awful, I have taken my camera equipment on aircraft a few times and once or twice this fog has occurred but with no damage to my equipment. Although I can understand how it could end up entering the equipment. Not sure what they did to your bag! I would threaten to sue them and see if they budge.
Nope, they are from Hanna, Alberta (sorry but I can't figure "The Google" out so you have to zoom out 6 times to get the feel for the location)
As frame of reference, Calgary has 1 million people, Edmonton is approaching 1 million and the two cities are a 3 hour drive apart. Now look where Hanna is!!!! BTW, I've been there for business and it's as big as it looks on the map
