p.1 #1 · Cheer Floor Remotes

First time setting up a floor remote for cheer in addition to 2 shooters on each side. Boy have I got lots to learn! These were with D3 and 14-24 on an overexpose plate. Wasn't too long before I discovered that it was most effective when the cheerleaders were near the edge of the floor by the camera.

As always, C&C welcome. Thanks for looking!

-John

Nice angles...I think that #3 would look really good cropped right above their hands. You've got some money shots right there.

John,

Very nice perspective from the "cushion cam". The beams also help in drawing your eyes towards the center, especially in # 3 & 4.

John,

Great shots!

Here are some tools that I utilize to make my life easier and get more shots the way I like them:
- Zigview S2
to see what the camera is seeing at a better angle (or even remotely)
( https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/768502/0#7036842 (pic #3))
- Manfrotto 405 3-way head
so you can pan slow or fast in any one axis: up for close groups, yaw for echelon formations, etc..
and I use a Neotec tripod that I can set next to a stage, or under a mat.

John... great shots. I love this angle and it all jives great when everyone is in sync. Teams love it when they all can nail the toe touches in unison.

If you haven't checked out www.michaelbassdesigns.com, do so. Lots of toys there and Michael is great. Just down the block from you too...

I still want to play with a TS-E for the floor-remote to get rid of the keystoning, and even picked up the Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L for this purpose. Not sure when I'll get a chance to try it, though.

Thanks all. I used the RRS ballhead on the overexpose plate which worked pretty well. That zigview looks pretty handy Hammy, I could have used it instead of getting low on the ground to check out the shots. Explains why my back is sore this morning . Looks like that Michael Bass guy has a bunch neat gadgets that are useful for remotes Paul. I'll be checking it out!.

Great angle! At least you didn't have to worry about a ball breaking the wizard off the camera .

And NOBODY complained about the photographers taking upskirt shots?? Sorry, just got back at 6am from the MOST "particular" cheer event I have ever shot.

Well I had a close call with one of the cheerleaders that fell off the edge of the floor... phew!

No one complained onsite but I eye-balled the wide angle shots and there were few questionable shots. Hence I asked John P to weed out the ones that are on the borderline before posting online

Yeah, like blowing out two tires in a tandem axle trailer at 11:45pm in NJ. Oh, killing a 1D3 for the second time and killing a dye sub 8x10 printer too. Still, all worth it..
