Just try a black and white variation of this picture.
Taken with D70, 60mm Macro, a bit of cropping and
B&W conversion with LR. Let me know what you think.
Thanks,

Interesting.
I'd like to see a bit more preservation of highlights.
The ear and the brightness over the bridge of the nose are distracting.
You might consider highlight recovery, square crop eliminating the nose and ear, making it all about the eye.
Hey, welcome to FM and our little neck of the woods.
As an alternative to the square crop Scott suggested, cropping some from the left would also work, if the highlights on the ear are dodged. I'd also suggest burning the whites of the eye a little. Sharpening would also help. Perhaps the Unsharp Mask at about 100%, Radius about 1.3 and a Threshold of two or three. Sharpening ought to make the eye more vibrant. As a tiny change, I'd also suggest using the clone stamp to remove the bit of lint on the eyebrow.
Thank you for the wonderful comments. I will try to incorporate the suggestion and re-post the edited version later. AuntiPode, thanks for the Photoshop tips. I am still working on my digital work flow. Definitely, these tips are really helpful.
