I'm working on cutting down my amount of lenses too, and so far I'm planning on getting rid of the 85 1.4 (supersharp, but i seldom use AF, and the Rokinon seems just as sharp at 1.4). But now I also think that the nikkor 105 1.8 is an alternative. It is not much larger than the 85 1.4, and is a very nice lens, and I think that 24, 58 and 105 is a nice trio too. Hard choices.

The Nikkor 105/1.8 @ f/1.8 is not even close to the Samyang @ f/1.4. It gives very low contrast wide open on FF in anything but very low light, and the bokeh is on the harsher side of "neutral". Stopped down though, it's sharp as hell and has wonderful bokeh. The 105/2.5 is much nicer if you don't need the last stop.

Edit: Build quality of the 105/1.8 is something special. Probably THE nicest handling lens I've ever held.

Hmm, I already got the 105 2.5.. I guess the rokinon/samyang 85 1.4 is the way to go then

Just keep them all! If your like me, you probably end up regretting every lens you sell at one time or another.

Well, I'm a student, in a few years, when I'm a rich lawyer, i can have af, mf and slow/light af AND mf versions of all focal lenghts, but right now, if I want to get the mythical M9, I have to cut down on some slr-glass.. :P

I just found a Rokinon 85 -Canon at Overstock, never ordered from them before, they say 5-10 days delivered. Price was well under the $335 that I see being charged on the Vivitar branded version of this lens. Paid $263 inc. shipping.

Cross-posted from the Alt. Image thread.

My wife shot this a few days ago with the Rokinon on 5D. It was stopped down "somewhere around f2.8" she said:

I just used the 85 Rokinion on a job yesterday and I have to say it is a nice lens to work with. Nothing about this lens feels cheap in use. The more I use it, the more I like it! The Bokeh stays nice at least through F 2.8.

So glad to hear you are enjoying it, Tariq.

My wife used it for a model shoot today and she was just saying to me how much she loves using it. The photos speak for themselves. I'll post a few later.

Cameta has Rokinon for EOS in stock. You can either get if off the ebay or thru their web site with 5% bing cashback.

I figured it would be worth mentioning that they quoted me less for shipping from their ebay store, so if there are any other Canucks out there interested in these units that would be the way to go.
