RE: Hand.
The judges may or may not have an issue with it. However, there are two reasons why for ME it doesn't cause a problem, and is different from Tony's example.
1. Its PJ, not portraiture. I didn't pose the little girl that way.
2. The hand's obscurement is part of the fundamental action of the image. There is no way that she could be playing with the curtains in that manner and still have her hand visible.
Again, though, the judges may not see it that way.
I think that is right on the money, It's completely contextual.
I would hope the judges see it that way as well. That would be common sense.
It's one thing if we're talking about a posed shot where you have the opportunity to tell the person to straighten their finger.
Evan didn't lost her hand in poor framing. Rather it's a natural part of what occured. Even if he had changed positions so you might be able to see her hand better, you would have lost the brides expression and the natural moment altogether.
2 looks like a winner to me overall, but I just really like that image because it feels very vintage and classy to me. The way they judge these competition is pretty unpredictable sometime, so no telling what they'll like. Best of luck either way.
I have a friend who pulled a score in the mid nineties in the 8x10 one year and eighty in the 16x20 so it can completely depend on the judges on the day. That is quite a drop in points.
Evan, I think I responded to this - not sure. But those are really special. 2 and 3 are some of my favorite shots - 3 is simply amazing. Let us know how it goes!
Evan, I also think 3 has a good shot at it. The only concern I see is the bride's hand. It's black below the elbow. May lose a few points because of that.
you're an amazing photographer !! although I really don't think the last one is competition material, it's good technically but a -10 compared to the other shots, the mood is kinna sad and there's nothing cathchy in the picutre
IMO

Thank you!
Yes, I ultimately only chose to submit numbers 2 & 3, as I didn't feel that 1 and 4 would be as competitive.
