Hi
Couldn't think where else to put this question.
I use Photobucket to upload images for posting on this forum. My images have copyright information applied and saved in Photoshop. However when I save them to Photobucket for linking into FM the copyright info has been stripped out. does anyone know why this happens and how to get over it? I tend to rely on the copyright info for protection.
Several of these stock hosting sites strip out your metadata in a blind method of reducing file sizes. Check tpo see if your keywords are gone as well. Some do it to thumbnails only some do it for thumbnails and larger versions.
This is according to metadata expert David Riecks of controlledvocabulary.com and http://photometadata.org/
I would not rely on anything in metadata at ALL...even if photobucket kept it (and it seems to- with my images)...anyone with photoshop or other programs can remove it...
Apart from exceptional cases you cannot realistically get any remedy for copyright violation. So if you are going to post things- make 'em small -put your name across it- and don't think of posting anything you really care about.
