My try at making it look like a gun firing.

Info:
There are 3 levels to this one. The gun is in front, behind it a bit is the bullet mounted to a metal rod with a propane torch pointing at it, behind that is another propane torch to get the blue extended frame. Between the gun and the propane tanks was a bit of black fabric to hide them.

Exposure was about 5 seconds at F14. 1 flash on gun set to 64th power to get some fill light on it. The torches kept melting the hot glue used to hold the bullet on the rod. I knew it was going to happen but most of the shots consisted of the bullet blurring from falling off the rod. Reconnect the bullet to the rod, position, re-shoot. Fall off, repeat process.

Excellent idea.

Not to take away from the shot, but the slide of the pistol would be partially back during this phase of the firing process, chambering another round....this would also give you the opportunity to have smoke coming out of the chamber..

Good luck this week.

Technically it's very, very good. Well thought out and processed, but a self firing gun? No wonder those things are dangerous

Thanks all...

Hey Bill, the actual title of this image is 'premature'. Just decided to use fire here to keep it simple...

I also had it with the slide partially blowing back but aethetically it didn't look good.

Good luck all...

Great shot...but along the technical lines I would prefer to have an appropriate bullet for the gun. It looks like you have a black powder sabot round there...which does pop nicely...still beautiful art.

nice avatar too...I have a blue heeler myself...that is one thick headed dog...brilliant - but driven.

Yet another awesome concept - executed brilliantly. It's nearly impossible to compete with you, Dave! Sigh...

All the best,

Endre

Hi Dave,

You do such a fabulous job stopping high speed objects. I love this entry as it is powerful and fits the theme in two interesting way. Just fantastic.

Best wishes,

Steve S.
