I started getting an Err 01 communications error today shooting a 40d and my much used, much loved Tokina 12-24. All other lenses work fine, and this one was fine yesterday. Any ideas of what the problem is, or a fix? Was out shooting the beginning of New England leaf season, and do NOT want to be without a wide angle for the next few weeks. Arrrg!
then there could be an issue with the apature blades. If you dont get the issue wide open then the blades aren't trying to close. But when you try to shoot anything else the blades are trying to close.
If its happening when you chose the Fstop rather than pressing the shutter button it could also be the chip in the lens (or a connection) as I think its also what happens when you use an old Sigma thats not been re chipped.
As a test mount the lens and choose a small fstop, hold down the DOF button and un mount the lens. that should leave the lens stopped down so you can see if the aperture blades are closed or have a problem
I am getting error99 with my Tokina mounted to a Canon 30D.
No other lens have this problem and my problem is sporadic. I read somewhere it could be the aperature blades getting stuck. Seems to be the case. If I set it to AV mode, set to f/22, and hit the DOF button over and over. It works up until I get to about ~15MM............ it just sticks or doesn't close.
Any easy fix other then sending it away to get repaired profressionally? If not I guess I just can use certain settings.
