U.S. dollar goes down, Japanese lenses go up, go figure
In January the dollar dropped to 88 Yen -- Today it's at 92 and a week or so ago it was 98. I don't think it's the exchange rates that are making this happen. More than likely a response to the current shortages and high demand. Once the supply levels rebound, the prices will most likely drop.
Either that or they figured that if people will pay the money for Nikon and Sony glass, why not Canon
I haven't been keeping up very closely with lens prices, but seems like most of the sub-$2K L lenses have gone up $150-$200 or more since I last checked. 70-200 f/2.8L IS, 24-70L, 24-105L, 35L, 85L (almost $2000!!!), 135L. Wow. Glad I got in while the getting was good. This is insane.
Me thinks stock market money should have gone to glass.
Would have made a killing...
Wifey would have beat me to it though (rather beat me and made me to a kill)

Legitimate or not, this price jump at B&H is likely to create a spurt of immediate purchases from other Canon retailers such as Adorama and Abe's where prices still remain at the yesterday's level.
I see many folks who've been holding off with their new glass acquisition will try now to beat a possible global price increase accross the entire retail network.
That would be quite ironic if this turns out to be another one of those B&H computer glitches.

According to B&H the 24-70 is now $1350 ($1250@Abes of Maine) and the 70-200/2.8 IS is up to $1950 ($1789@Abes of Maine) as well...not sure if this was a recent increase but it seems higher than I remember.
wow I remember when that was 'only' $1600! wow $2000!
and holy cow! The 300 2.8 IS is not $4400!!!!!! Wow, I got mine like onyl 2 years ago for $3750. Hmmm actually even more wow, that was 3 years ago. Time flies.
wow, the 70-200 f/4 IS is now $1250!!!!!!! I just got it last year for $950!

Good heavens...I bought that 135 2.8 one year ago for $275 new. No one will pay $500 for that lens. Not when you can get a great used copy of the 135 2.0 for under $1000.
Lens prices are funny. I was in the market for a 15mm fisheye a few months ago and Amazon was selling one for $1300. I bought a perfect one used for $600.
heck I got a use 135 f/2 last year for only $100 more than the 135 2.8 is new now!
Wow 100 macro now $600 for it for $400 last year.
And that 200 2.8, not the lens for me, but it had been the bargain way to get a fast 200mm 2.8, now it is like the 70-200 price! $900?!!!
maybe it was good i went crazy getting all that glass the last two years:
1. any money taken out of stocks for glass would've plunged horribly if left in stocks (now it is going up again but not at all all the way back)
2. lens prices are now wayyyy higher

Possible that the rebates are coming?
That has crossed my mind too.
However, there has been a major upward price trend with used lenses too, particularly by major on line retailers like KEH. As an example, they've had seven copies of 300 f/2.8 non-IS priced between $3,000 and $3,250 for a few months now. Not really selling any of them fast, however, don't expect any major price reductions there.

I just got a 70-200f4 a couple of months ago from B&H and it was just under $1200 so there's been a significant increase. Makes e-bay look better all the time.
