I don't tell my wife. To her, all camera bodies look the same & all great white lenses look the same (pretty much). Sure, she can tell the difference between a 300/2.8 & a 600/4 but as long as she doesn't see all of them at the same time I'm OK...

I just got a mailing that it will be in stock at one of the bigger retailer in the Netherlands at noon today. In the mailing they speak of 1739,00 euros, but on the website the price is already down to 1699,00 euros. I saw Calumet offers it for 1650,00 euros, but I don't think they have actual stock yet.
There are always internet sellers who list them for way less (in the 1400-1500) range, but they have no actual stock - and probably won't get the 7D in stock for the coming months. Canon Netherlands likes to distribute any new item through the bigger retailers first....Show more →
I buyed from an internet store here in Italy for 1463 shipped to my home and they assured me they are receiving 10 of them on monday and ship the day after. I'll let you know. However, even if I receive it by mid october, is a nice price here. and this is a reputable seller.

Now that makes the UK price look really expensive. 1463 Euros is around 1335 Pounds.

That works for me too except for the size box the UPS delivers, "More batteries" doesn't work well.

My wife is that same but she can't help noticing that the total amount of gear just keeps growing. And my appartment is very small.

So now there are some 7D's in the wild, can anyone tell me whether, with an f1.2 or f1.4 lens shot wide open, the viewfinder shows deeper depth of focus than the reviewed image on the back of the camera?
If no one else does first, I will let you know later today. I have the 35L.
Given the retailer, I should have it by Friday or Monday at the latest.
First new Canon body purchase since the 1D2.
It has taken Five Years for canon to get me to open my wallet with a body.
(I don't count the Rebel because it really was a toy, price wise at least)
My last 1.6 crop body was the rebel 6mp.
This will be my 1.6 crop body until they come out with a 36mp 1.6 crop body.
If they ever do.
Now I have to buy some CFs. I have been shooting SD's for the past 3 years.
To you early adopters that have other Canon bodies with live view, can you comment on the contrast detect AF speed of the 7D? Have there been any improvements? I'm still puzzled why AF speed in live view is not a priority to Canon/Nikon. Perhaps there are technical reasons I'm not aware of.
seems like medium jpg from 7D looks like the noise of large jpg from 5D2
ai servo works faster than 5d2, although in a dingy, dark hall it seemed to keep failing to lock any focus when the 5d2 had no problem on certain subejcts
it almost seemed like the one shot center point af of the 5d2 might be at least as good, if not a touch better when doing f/1.4 work under tough conditions??
mirror/fps WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY faster than on 5D2
any it was a very preliminary look
Maybe a stupid question. but, does the image have less noise if shooting med ratther than large? If so why and if not why is it sometimes mentioned.
Question #2 anyone try an aftermarket battery on a 7D yet?

I agree... there are some related thoughts in this thread:
If you want the 7D cheap... just wait a few weeks/months. It looks like Canon is supplying the market generously. They have to in order to counter D300s sales. So, it won't be like with the 5D2... where Canon deliberately held back supplies. Let's let the 7D vs D300s pricewar begin... so that prices will drop fast
D300s versus 7D Price War for the Holidays of 2009.
In the meantime I haven't bought a new Dslr at full launch price since 2005. I've saved hundreds waiting, & more than thousand dollars a couple times waiting for both my brand new 5D Classic purchases. Once I had a Dslr inhand I no longer needed to be in first wave of dslr buyers.
Unless you've got a paying gig that requires the frame rate of 7D or video options waiting a couple months can save you some money as we approach Canon's favorite sales season: The Holidays.
However if you have no camera then jumping on the full price merry go round I think is fine for a first timer dslr purchase. I did it once too.

I agree ... I got $85 off, but could have saved another $200 if I had just waited a month or so. I waited 5 weeks to buy the 50D and got $370 off it.
