I think too many people see the forums as an outlet to complain, rant, rave, argue meaningless differences of opinion, feed their ego, and bash camera manufacturers.
Not share something useful information about photography and technique.
I wonder if these same people trash every other product in the lives.
Thanks for that bit of useful information about photography and technique.
I don't know if this has been brought up, but with the flash commander in the 7D, when using a flash bracket with a Speedlite, you would not need the OC-E3 off-shoe flash cord.
I know some Nikon fellas with the D300 doing this using an SB-800.

So blame me for pointing out the bad behavior on the forums.
Somebody needed to do it.
If you enjoy arguing and bashing Canon have fun.
see ya ...
Pointing out the truth about a companies strategy is not bashing unless you are a fanboy. I've not bashed the 7D at all as a camera though you still take offense as if I had, Sir, the rants are yours not others.
This looks like "the King Cropper" to me, at least for now.
Seriously, anyone who shoots fast moving subjects (particularly if they are far away) should be thrilled with the release of this camera, assuming that the AF is what its supposed to be (I don't have much faith in RG's testing, so I'm holding my judgement for now).

Extra AF sensitivity only with center point and only with f2.8 lenses? They won't do that if they port this AF system over to the 1 series, it's a bit consumer still, still means that focus accuracy with moving subjects and f4 lenses won't be up to 1 series standards. Big shame that personally, it's a real issue for me when shooting dancing and the like, the f4 lenses just don't lock on anywhere near as accurately on a moving subject as the f2.8 and faster lenses do. If anything I can see this as a reason why the 1 series is what a pro sports photographer will still buy.
yeah they should've at least tossed us the f/4 high-precision for the center since it does make all the f/4 dodgier for AF. Although, then again, perhaps AI Servo doesn't really work that way anyway and if it has good logic and the same base sensor point (just one shot f/8 and f/4 precision turned off in firmware?) maybe it won't make any difference at all??
i imagine the 1 series will have at least a few more f/2.8 points as well for better precision for alternate framing

Wow, I hadn't thought of that, thanks! One less nuisance when using my Kirk macro flash bracket.

I'm not ready to believe that firmware will be the main difference between the 7D AF and the AF in the next 1-Series, although we can hope!
But I agree with where you're headed, i.e. just because we don't have high-precision at f/4 doesn't mean the new 7D AF won't still be much better than the xxD AF at f/4. It may not be 1-Series, but it may be close enough.
Was just going to post that up! I wouldn't take what he says about IQ to heart people, he was shooting with beta, before it was supported (as early beta) by adobe and he doesn't know DPP so his comments are 'beta' as he says.
"I have no inside information whatsoever, but my guess is that the new 7D body design is the template for the eventual 5D MKII replacement. Just replace the flash housing with a full-frame prism. I'm sure there's a lot more to it that that, but I'll be very surprised if this isn't eventually the case. "
OK. I have read enough to convince me I want this camera. Any suggestions on where to order from. Amazon, B&H or is there a better bet to get a camera in the very near future?

Thanks
Call Lisa Monahan at Berger-Bros Camera ... 631-264-4160 They are a solid dealer and generally get good allocations. Tell Lisa NevadaJack mentioned I should call her and check on availbility on an early copy. I am expecting a call from her any day to lock up the details to ship.

You can do the same with an ST-E2 of course. However, in either case you loose rear-curtain sync with Canon (an unfortunate limitation of wireless E-TTL). Often I'm dragging the shutter a bit in situations where I'm using a bracket, so the cord is still useful.

The image quality comments are quite concerning to me.
He should have just punted... his further comments do nothing more than add confusion and possilbly raise doubts where there may be none.
"I am going to punt, and will not be describing in any detail the image quality that I have seen from the Canon 7D.
Frankly, the reason is that I am seeing things which I am not sure are a consequence of the camera's inherent characteristics or are specific to pre-production cameras or even this specific camera. This includes overall image softness and some digital artifacting. Nothing terrible mind you; just enough though that I am aware of it, and therefore don't want to make any undue assumptions."
