IT's still slow as hell. Quad core 4GB ram here and I think it's very slow.
I agree completely. It is possible that the program hasn't been optimized yet.. or the noise reduction algorithm are so complex that it requires a lot of processing to complete.
I would prefer faster but I am enjoying the results regardless.
I haven't seen any banding on my 7d yet. I would like to see some examples if anyone has seen some.
I'm not heartbroken by these, Yakim - taken two days ago on the camera's first trip out:
I'm seeing more fine feather detail in my 7D images than I did from my 40D (both with 100-400mm attached) - these reduced-for-web versions lose a lot - and it handled some challenging exposure situations very well.
So far I'm very pleased indeed with the new camera: and I know I haven't really scratched the surface...

Anybody thinks this thread is a bit too technical and misses seeing some pictures? Here's my first decent (well, IMHO of course) pic with it.
Happy shooting,
Yakim.
Yakim, your camera is really front-focusing. The ride is not in focus at all.
I did a quick test between LR2 (version 2.6) and LR3 (beta) and I don't see any difference at all in the noise at ISO 100 (at 100%) and ISO 3200. Both are equally bad!

Tell that to skibum5 and the other folks who routinely examine their photos at >200% magnification.
hey hey i first noticed it at 100% view on a normally processed photo
and i still noticed nasty weirdness even at (large) screenview size and execess noise at websize
and if anyone says that the mazing was not a problem with the 7D and most converters at first, says that was nothing to worry about then they should never ever mention anything about image quality at all since even an early nikon had better SNR than a typical 7D processed with a converter that doesn't counteract split green channels. The difference between the mazing and non-mazing conversions was far larger than between a 20D vs 40D vs 50D vs D300 vs D200 vs 7D.
Ok 169 pages of discussion on the 7D and after reading many many discussions all over the internet I just cant take anymore. I recently recommended the 7D to a friend and a few days later got one myself. Unfortunately I based my decision off previous Canon bodies I owned... 1st Digital Rebel, 10D, 20D and 1DMKii. I did not need comparison shots to immediately see apparent soft images and lack of detail on my camera and after viewing shots from my friends I see the same results. These results become even more apparent when viewing photos I have taken with my aforementioned cameras, even the Rebel body.
Now with all of the other bodies I did what I always do, which is take some shots inside and outside then examine them on the computer. I could always tell where the focus was and examine detail. The 7D on the other hand is completely opposite. There are more shots that I examine and just wonder if anything at all is on focus. At first I thought slow shutter speeds but quickly ruled that out.
Is there something about this camera that is so drastically different than my other cameras as to require a complete relearning? Im sadly to the point of returning my camera and my friends as well, despite the 15% restocking fees we face. I feel so bad about recommending it that im going to cover his fee, putting me out about $600, which surprisingly is enough to buy a lower end canon body that takes better pictures!
Im here as a last resort... some miracle that reveals what Im doing wrong and will flip my opinion of this body. Any input appreciated.

Compared to your previous four cameras, yes: 18MP.
If you are coming from 6MP and 8MP cameras, you might have to adjust your expectations if you like to view at 100%
For example, shutter speeds where you previously got sharp shots at 8MP may not be sufficient with such a dense 18MP sensor if, as I said, you like to view at 100%.
There have been some discussions here suggesting that the old adage of using a shutter speed of 1/(Effective Focal Length) might be out-dated at the newest pixel densities.
Yes I have read quite a few comments about viewing 100%. I guess its a lack of understanding. Still this does not explain the detail issue. If I'm viewing a 7D image at 100% and then the same scene from a smaller MP camera also at 100% and I do not see the details in the 7D image that I see in the other... I just dont see how the 7D image would be better. To me its simply a larger image with less detail resolved. Viewing it smaller, say to match the view size of the other image, will make it appear more equal but that lack of detail is not going to just manufacture itself in print.
Without posting some images - with Exif - there's really not much point in asking what's wrong.
In know one thing: I own 30D and 40D bodies and now a 7D, and the 7D is far and away the "sharpest" of the three, both in terms of AF (although my 40D is fine in that department) and the amount of detail the sensor can resolve.
I was down at the San Fran bay a month or so ago and did some shooting with my 200 f2 with the 2X on some boats and birds. The lens is known to be razor sharp with good contrast and it great with my 5D or 5DII. With the 7D I got great tracking and very sharp images. Maybe your 7D needs to be checked or try some tripod shots.
I have to say the 7D has passed my expectations by a lot compared to my other cameras and what I have used before! Colours and detail are awesome.
Even the nifty fifty that I was about to give away since it was driving me crazy with OOF shots and shite focus has come extremely good - so much it is like getting new glass.
70-200 is way sharper than it has every been!
On the other hand my 17-55 f2.8 has been brilliant with previous bodies but with this 7D is hopeless, OOF and very soft. Will definitely be sending this lens into Canon for a look at.
