I wouldn't mind seeing it, but I think I know where this is going. One person prefers the higher contrast, and one person prefers to see more detail. One person dislikes the washed out look when using too much fill, and the other person isn't bothered by it. I think that the evening light assisted in the more contrasty image, and isn't necessarily a result of taste/camera/computer.

I'm in the other camp. The edited version shows me things that I don't think help the image, and hurts the grass, the changes shouldn't be across the board. If it's the detail in the rider he's after, work in layers and leave the bg untouched.

I am still getting used to the 7D and the tracking. Today I was able to track through a wire fence, follow the subject and it stayed on tracking as they came out from behind the fence. I then tracked a humming bird in a tree and it did better than expected for such a small target. I can see there is a real learning curve with this camera but I am finding it does an excellent job if you know what functions to use and how to use them.

Thanks Garyvot, I know/knew all along that there's *very minor* blocked shadow areas in my original image (which actually did not matter in terms of detail). One can always have/keep clipped highlights and blocked shadows in an image, question is how much does it matter. I almost always overexpose, if possible and pull back instead of pushing (as evident in the re-post where noise is visible when pushing it in PP).
Fwiw, I always check highlights/shadows in ACR before posting any image.
The image was underexposed by 0.33 in camera(deliberately), and only sharpened in PP. Glad to hear that the original version is working for most of you.
Anyway, here's one more for the high iso lovers:
7D+ 400 5.6, ISO 3200, 1/200, hand held, FF, only lumi noise reduced in ACR and edge sharpening applied in CS3. I love this camera and the possibilities/potential. The sun had set and it was almost dark( for photography).
PS: My free advice and plea to those who are complaining about AF on this camera, please please do some tests/micro-adjust your lenses individually after taking delivery from the UPS guy and before commenting about bad AF and other stuff about this camera. +10 works for me for the 400 f/5.6 (recently did some tests)
I am finding this to be an excellent camera so far. Not in the 1 series league...but very close. I come from a 1Dmk2.
Beauty of this camera and lens combo is, I can hang it around my neck and ride my newly acquired bike to chase those raptors for hours...no need of tripods, backpack and other gizmos.
As for the critique about Conradus Motorbikus AKA Streethawkus Conradus, I would love to see actual images from people instead of just critique/words/complaints ;-). I was just being nice to the person who questioned the blocked shadows....oh well :-). Peace ! My photos show the real deal out of the camera(exif intact), no fancy PP...trust me on that(except for that fancy shadow frame). , And yes, that is Conrad's new car.

i just recently moved to Pemberton, B.C, Canada. The scenery is spectacular,
these are the first few photos that i take here with the new 7D.
I think the camera is great, lots of new features, autofocus , view finder, built quality and noise are all great compared to previous models.but i find i have to change the color temperature on a few shots cuz of strong magenta hue.

If you really want to explore the depths of detail from the 7d, you will need some raw's to work with. Adjusting 1060×603 jpegs pulled off the web isn't the best way test detail performance.
Anyhow, I misunderstood the intent of your offer. I thought you fancied an image with more detail, and wanted to adjust it to your taste. I didn't pick up on the fact that you were solely interested in the shadow detail performance of the camera. My apologies for that, and I too would be interested to see what can be done pulled from a raw file.
