230 pixels per mm represents a HD video "crop factor" of ~4.5* if they just read out the central 1920x1080, so your 400mm lens would shoot like an ~1800mm in terms of FOV, and with the flip-up EVF, it would be in focus
Based on a pretty accurate translation from Chinese to English the APS-H/APS-C hybrid will not show up in this 7D. Regardless, this one is on my shopping list as of Tuesday...

OK, Chinese to English: 18M APS-C CMOS Dual DiGiC 4

Oh I know it wouldn't be a life-changing feature (I've got way more FOV/zoom options thanks to the 100-400mm) but it might be fun to have.
If it had an EVF to automatically magnify the viewfinder image in APS-C mode, that would be cool!
This might translate (any help on a definitive translation gratefully received) to:
1. 18MP APSC CMOS
2. Dual DIGIC 4
3. 8 FPS (~14 FINE JPEG/ 15 RAW)
4. New eight-directional double cross central AF point, total 19 cross AF points
5. ISO 100-6400 (Exp 12800)
6. ~100% 1.0X magni VF with intelligent display, horizon assist
7. New iFCL metering (exposure and colour)
8. 3′ 920K Version II LCD, 160 deg viewing
9. Full HD video (w external mic input n HDMI output)
10. Live view w Face-priority AF
11. New switch for Live View/Video mode
12. Aero-dynamic body design, metallic shutter sound, 150K shutter life
13. New 24mm built-in flash, supports EOS intelligent speedlite system
14. A.L.O
15. P.I.C
16. Picture style
17. EOS Integrated Dust Removal system.
If it's more or less what that list indicates it will be in my bag next spring. I'll be shopping for a crop body in Feb or March, so this may be my next body.

Nice set of specs, now we just need to see how much, and how good the picture quality (High ISO performance) will be.
Hopefully the 5D3 will have a similar list of specs too.
High ISO performance and AF performance are critical features and both are deciding factors for me. As for the 5DMKIII, I think we have a bit of time before we hear any news about it...

unless canon implements pixel binning in this one...
It's bound to have sRAW modes.
I have a gut feeling (which could just be wishful thinking of course!) that Canon might have one or two new sensor tech tricks up their sleeves, and are using this camera as an introduction to the sensor technology that'll enable properly usable (in noise terms at least - they'll be honking big files!) 40 - 50mp sensors in the future.

[Maybe they will discard the 17-85 and replace it with the 15-85, which seems to be the case.
That is the only way the 15-85 would make sense. I think this could be a good move for Canon since the current 17-85 is a distinctly less-than-wonderful lens that sort doesn't fit much of any particular market segment very well.

As someone posted on the Canon Rumors site:
The 7D will not be the Lord of Darkness but the Lord of Diffraction .
Everyone does realize that diffraction does not increase with pixel density, right? It does at the 100% level, so you might not see all 18 MP advantage at smaller apertures, but for a given print, the pixel density has absolutely nothing to do with the diffraction effects. That tiny little blur circle may be picked up by a neighboring pixel now, but on a print, it'll still be the same size for the same size sensor. A 200MP APS-C sensor printed at 20x30 will have the exact same diffraction effects as a 20x30 print on a 15MP APS-C sensor.
The 17-85 IS isn't that great and is in need of a update, so the 15-85 IS does make sense. Hopefully it will perform better then the 17-85 IS, especially on the new breed of high resolution cameras.
