nikon 17-35 as close as 30cm by book but if you put it on manual focus you can get as close as 25cm

12-24/4 is about 11.8 inches from the focal plane, which is about 5-6 inches from the front of the lens.

my 24 PC-E: minimum focussing distance (from Nikon's site): "0.7ft. (0.21m)"
Add tilt, and you can have 0.7 ft to infinity sharp, if you want (or tilt the other way, and hardly any DOF at all).
