I definitely love that first one with the old hotel.
The 17 sure flares I dont mind it though, its nice and neat, none of that ugly veiling nonsense!
It also makes nice stars

This is the first time I've shot it with so many different light sources at different angles. If I would have more time I would have tried the CV 20/3.5 which is very good dealing with flare. I don't think most lenses could have done better.
OK guys, I finally got to go out and take some hand held sample pics with the Tamron and I can now confirm that even WO its really sharp!
Heres a WO sample:
And a 100% crop:
I also took some WO Bokeh samples:
A bit busy for my liking but not bad for such a wide angle lens I think.
I took a worse case senario flare sample too:
Fortunately by holding my hand in just the right place I could shield the lens from the sun:
With the right hood I should'nt need to do this but as I dont have one yet at least I have a simple way to keep flare at bay.

Okay, just because I've seen numerous versions of this lens - crackle finish, smooth plastic finish, and now yours. Which version is the one to get?
EDIT: Check that. I think the crackle version I saw was actually a Tokina. I can't really remember.
If it was a Tokina then it was'nt the same lens...The Tamron has more elements and is a far better performer.

The Zuiko 18/3.5, even with the 49-72mm ring, is still very small. The Tamron 17/3.5 with the hood is close to twice the size. The Zuiko can take a 72mm filter, while the Tamron requires a (PITA) 82mm filter in the hood. I got tired of attaching/detaching the hood and the hassle with expensive filters.
I got around this by simply gluing a 67mm Skylight filter, with the glass removed, onto the front. Now my Tamron 17/3.5 has a 67mm filter, just like my Tokina 17mm f3.5 RMC. This means I can use the same hoods and filters on both lenses. Cokin P filters are no longer problem and theres no need to handhold them in front of the lens.

As for the Tamron SP 17mm, I have the last version made that has a smooth finish. Came with the lenshood, which I discovered later on, was bent and unusable. IS there any other solution for a lenshood that i could use? I haven't had a chance to use it because of the lenshood issue.
I have the early version, with built in filters, which has no filter thread...Does your later version also have no filter thread? I got around the problem by fitting my own filter thread by gluing on a 67mm skylight filter, with the glass removed..This gives me the option to use commonly available and cheap 67mm rubber lenshoods and relatively cheap 67mm filters as well as allowing easy fitting of Cokin filters.
