p.1 #1 · Swimming - Back to Basics with 1D Classic

Just picked up a used classic 1D. I had a 1D a few years back and remembered I had a lot of fun with it. I sold it to upgrade to 1D II. The 1D files have a distinctive look and I like them for their small size. I don't enlarge and I shoot tight, so I figured it should serve me well. Well, it does. But it seemed that I have forgotten about the poor LCD display due to its old age in terms of digital camera, and there is no zoom. So I had to put my faith in its AF to get the shots. In a way, it works great since I don't have to constantly check whether pictures are in focus.

Anyway, I used it for a swim meet and have a few for C&C. This is the last swimming for me this year. Thanks for looking.

1 - very nice, tiny depth of field and you got the eyes, not the hand. Nice work.
2 - Great shot. Seems like the plane of focus is nearer her waist than head, which also seems to happen to me every dang time I try this shot unless I prefocus somewhere "downstream".
3 - Love it, one of my favorites.
4, 7, 8... very interesting! I like 8 best of the group because it best conveys the motion and mess of swimming, and there's a face. 4 is too abstract for me, and 7 is underwater. Did you do anything besides use a crazy low shutter speed? I'm going to have to give this a rip next year since swimming just finished for me as well. I like it!
5 - isn't as good as your other shots, the lighting is tougher on your subject and the face is dark. are those water spots on the lens, or just close to you?
6 - Also very good, it's hard to get a nice backstroke picture without looking directly up the nose, so I like what you've done here.

Thanks for sharing, your pictures are terrific. I do enjoy seeing what other people come up with for swimming and I have some new stuff to try now.

Thanks, TrojanHorse.

You are right about #2. The focus was off and I still haven't perfected that one yet. Prefocus would do.

#5 - the contrast was really bad due to bad lighting. The clouds moved in right then.

#6 - of the four strokes, I always find backstroke is the most difficult to shoot.

#4, 7, 8 - just wanted to do something different. It's getting boring after a little while. I have some really crazy ones, but I don't think people would appreciate much. But it's always interesting to shoot it with a different perspective.
