p.5 #1 · Massive jump-ship. What to do?

I've got a pentax K20D and never seen a vertical banding problem, nor have I read about this problem before K-7. Have You Herb? I think the new slightly tweaked K20D sensor improved for K-7 HD recording is flawed. Maybe Pentax should have stuck with Sony for their sensors instead of using Samsung made sensors? Maybe they should not have added HD to a still camera thats so well weather sealed?

What is it about pentax gear that when you replace it with another brand you, & I and others like to keep our old K Mount stuff around? I know why I do, as I really like my K20D and old lenses and inbody shake reduction. No pentax lens I own is weather sealed so thats a pointless feature for me on K20D or K-7. When we travel the Pentax gear stays behind. New lenses I buy are from Canon & Nikon. We travel with only Canon and Nikon systems. Old used lenses are the ones I'll buy for Pentax Dslr. Inbody shake reduction is a cool feature and this feature is why I keep my Pentax gear instead of cashing out and moving on:

But, Pentax is the first brand I'll drop if I need to recover my outlay.

Alot of "pentaxians" are seeing the green vertical band, mostly after HD recording or using Live View. I wonder if Hoya, who bought out Pentax Corporation outright last year, will ignore the green vertical lines or confront this Pentax K-7 sensor hardware problem? I will not buy a K-7 now due to this serious flaw.

K-7 Specs are real nice though except its too small for my big hands and I've read this from others too, but maybe with the grip it would have worked for me? Then again with grip its a $1550 combo & $1600 with 2nd grip battery, whereas my D700 ran me $2319 new, my 5D ran me $1750 new and I didn't need a grip for improved ergonomics on either. To have to spend $1600 on the K-7 grip combo to fit my hand better will not happen. I will not drop this amount of cash on any aps-c dslr considering how affordable full frame was for me late last year and early this year.

that makes it no different than the K20D in the sensor running hot. however, weather sealing isn't likely to have any significant effect.

I found myself with basically the same considerations as the OP. I was considering the upgrade to K-7 from K10, wondering if it was worth gambling $1300 that the AF and high ISO would be satisfactorily improved.

At one point I realized for that money I could buy a 5d mk1, and not have to gamble. I'm transitioning systems now.
