p.1 #1 · 1DSMk2- Any Problems?

I recently purchased a slightly used 1DsMk2 with 9000 clicks on it. After reading all the threads about the 1DsMk3 and 1DMk3 having a myriad of problems I got to wondering if the model I just bought had any shortcomings/chronic problems I should know about. If any one has any info please chime in. Thanks in advance for any replies I may receive.

They have relatively few problems, and less than many other models. Any of the 1D series shutters can fail, so you may want to check that once in a while at 1/8000. Sometimes the mirror mechanisms break after 400-500K in semi-continuous use, but you are hardly likely to use one that way. Depending on the age, you may want/need to buy an extra battery or two.

Early shutter failure is the only thing I've seen on the 1DsII. It's not chronic, but it does come up. I bought one from one of the eBay camera guys a while ago with <20,000 and noticed a white band at high shutter speeds...sign of shutter failure. As EBH mentioned, test it at 1/8000+

Thanks for the responses/info. I already ordered 2 new batteries and I will keep an eye on the shutter. What made the shutter of this camera more prone to early failure? Did Canon change something or was more of a "bad batch" issue? I am not really all that concerned but it is good to know about.

Mine has a little over 150K on the original shutter. I have nothing but good things to say about it. I also have a 1D MkII and a 1D MkIII and the 1Ds MkII is far and away my favorite.

It's not. The Internet will also tell you the polar icecaps are melting and we are all going to drown in 10 years...
