Bad luck with the camera Alan. I'm sure Canon will sort it all out for you. Hopefully it won't be too expensive.

That's a lovely image of the swallow. The background is gorgeous, the lighting is excellent, it's well composed and sharp. I would love to see it with the noise reduction masked out (or at least greatly reduced) on the subject though. Other than that, it's an A+ image!

Here's hoping that 40D will take many more such photos for you!

I know this is hard to swallow, but the turn around shouldn't be too long. In the mean time, process some of your older shots ~ Ron

Thanks Ed for your kind comments, the bird did not have any NR applied to it, i just failed to PP it correctly. Karl had a go at it and improved the shot very nicely. I'm going to pick his brain about some of his techniques

Important here Alan is that you took a good shot that was very workable. PP is a style and continuous learning curve as I have found out. I am thankful for what I have learned in PP from the forum members as well as my own experimentations.

'Your' image looks great buddy, glad I was able to help you

That is just freaking unbelievable coincidence!! my 40d shutter died at 5500 clicks 2 weeks ago! seems like a dead line for 40d shutters or something
Hey listen Canon should service it even if the camera is not under warranty anymore because they guarantee the shutter at 100k!
So that's the last sparrow ur 40d saw b4 it died

No, they don't guarantee a shutter. The cite a shutter 'life' which is, I believe, more of a 'mean time to failure' concept. Some will fail early, some will go longer, on average they will fail at the rated life.

Frankly, I find the fact that Canon will replace a failed shutter for around 200-250 bucks amazing. That's not bad at all.

I wanted to update about the lady I refered to in my post that had her 40D shutter go out. Apparently it wasn't the shutter but some "misc" parts related to the shutter assembly.

She also informed me that Canon has a "minimum" charge on all the work they do...at least at the NJ facility. I think it was around $200 minimum.

Howard & Noelle, thanks kindly for your comments.

I called Canon this morning and i will be shipping it out Tomorrow morning as soon as i get to work. NJ location

Does anyone know of a good price at this point for the 50D, i may go ahead and buy one and use the 40D as a backup......a reputable dealer that is, and any experience you have had with them........thanks for the support everyone

Sorry to hear about the 40d shutter Alan

That sux big time!! This is one of the reasons I always try to have two camera bodies.
JUST IN CASE.

But funny enough : I too am without a camera as all of my gear is at canon for calibration.

maybe it's all of the failed 40d shutters that is slowing down my calibrations.......... ughhh
i'm tired of waiting for my gear to return!!

No MORE 40D repairs until Ant get's his gear back

Good luck Alan. I'm sure it will be done under warranty

Ant
