p.2 #1 · Walkaround prime for 5dmk2

The old film cameras (the original FF) came with a 50mm lens because it is so versatile. The same way it would be for your 5DMkII. It is your choice if you want the 50 f1.8, inexpensive, or the pricier, and better quality, f1.4.

35L if IQ is paramount, 35/2 if you want lighter, more discreet kit w/o too much IQ tradeoff. I always feel 50 is a bit narrow, but then I've trained my eye with 35mm focal length over the years, so works for me as a generalist prime.

Oh, the Sigmalux is the one to get. Sigma 50/1.4. No doubt.

for people and sh*t like that... 85mm f/1.8, 100 f/2 or even 135 f/2

those focus a lot better too

and the 135 f/2 is magical even wide open
although it is getting harder to hand hold in low light

I'd get a 24/28 and a 50/85

nice photo

yeah the sigma might be a better choice (sharper wide open with less issues, atlhoguh not as sharp stopped well down though). I have never trusted sigma AF though, but then again I absolutely don't trust the AF on CAnon's 50mm lenses and I think the clutch on my 50mm 1.4 is breaking already (and my first copy had a bad clutch right out of the box).

I'd go 35L and 85/1.8. Both are excellent lenses and small.

Fantastic! This would be a great example on the 3D thread back over on the alt forum.

On my 5D MkII, my walkabout lens is my Carl Zeiss ZE 50 f:1.4. Amazing at landscapes, stunning detail, colour and contrast. I did Venice with it, and here is one of the shots it enables:

I traded in my Canon 50 f:1.4, and never looked back. Oh, and it costs and weighs but a fraction of the Canon 50mm "L"

+1

It will be easier to isolate the subject with these lenses as well.
