I've hiked the narrows many times while living here, trying to find the best times for certain light to hit the walls. This time I stuck around for 6-7 hours finding the best places to shoot. Trial and error, my friends, and I finally came up with two that I really enjoyed.
It's getting very hot in the desert, and when you hike the narrows, it's a cool and refreshing way to get away from the blazing heat and into some wonderful water.

Both very nice shots, with #1 being my favorite. The water movement really draws me in toward the lit up walls. Really makes me want to head to Zion for the second time. Thanks for sticking around and sharing the results.
The first is really gtreat. Fantastic ligth and you have captued the texture of the walls really well. Feels like we are right there standing right beside you in the Narrows. As for hanging around waiting...that's was to escape the heat!!!
is that a person in #1 immediately to the right of that big rock? if it is, methinks you might try psing that shirt color to red or something bright. not sure but it might make a slight difference to this already beautiful capture!
Thank you all for the kind replies! Yes, I'm glad that hiker was right next to the rock, it really shows how big that place really is. You feel quite small in there to say the least. I don't know if I'll edit the hiker to make her stand out more -- I like to un-edit my photo's as much as possible, but thanks for the suggestion
Beautiful images; the first catching my favor as well. I've been there many times, and never fail to hit the Narrows when I visit Zion. I've found the best light around 10 am and around 4 pm, but of course it depends on other conditions (clouds, sun, etc), and I'd be interested in hearing your recommendations on the best light.
Bart, thanks for the reply! I've actually never made it to these particular spots before noon so the light was not quite right at that point it seems. In the first picture it was around 3:30 p.m. I believe, and it was a very clear, hot day (thankfully, the clouds were rolling in the previous day and I was bummed, but it cleared).
The second shot was about 30 minutes after the first. I'll check the exact time when I'm home on my EXIF data, but those are rough estimates.
