FMers - Just wonder it has happened to you? Recently I sent to Canon (2) L lenses for calibration, and they came back to me without the date codes. I called Canon and they transfered me to three different reps but no one had an answer for me. These L lenses are expensive and by erasing the UV codes, Canon dereased the value of my lenses. I will think twice next time before sending lenses in for service.

Thanks EBH and pipspeak. Yes, the S/N is still present. Generally, buyers prefer newer lens such as UV, UW or UX code. Older lense like US, UT code, etc. does not attract buyers as much and can't command the same value as newer ones. In this case, one of the lenses I bought from FM forum has no receipt. The service report from Canon only listed the serial number. They said the date code does not mean anything to them and that's why they don't bother to document it.

I'm sure they have that info internally, but I couldn't begin to guess if it's something they'll readily give out. Doesn't hurt to make a phone call though.
Most likely the right person will be happy to tell you, the only problem is that it will take you 45 minutes on the phone to find that right person.

You got that right; calling these people can be an exercise in frustration.
