the xti is nice but all depends on what you wanna take, there is never a perfect combo everybody is different.

Tamron 28-75 2.8. Good lens with some low light capability.
Tamron 17-50 2.8 Better if you need a wider range.
Second the 85 1.8 Excellent lens for the money.
50 1.8 Maybe the best value lens period.

Comes down to your preferences and shooting style.

I'd be more concerned about the operator than the tools.
