OK, can someone help? Does any one know what is new about the recently released Canon PIXMA Pro9500 Mkll printer? How has it been improved over the old Pro9500? I've searched all around and can't really find a good answer. Is it just essentailly software -- the ability to print 16-bit files, and some osftware to change the way the print prints based on who it will be viewed? Is that it? It seems that the printing 16-bit files might be a helpful, but after a good two years or so, you might think that there would be more changes that that.
Any infroation that any one has would be appreciated. Thanks.
I'm not sure what is new, but here are some specs on the new Pro9500.
Lucia 10-color pigment ink.
Has 7,680 nozzles on print head with print as small as 3 picoliters.
Dual paper paths. (Top and Manual front loading)
Easy-PhotoPrint Pro Software (looks like a RIP-type software for maxing paper usage)
Surprisingly, that's all the brochure says. Although it' has a huge double-page spread in back with tables of small-font specs.

Yes, thanks. I'm aware of these and have indeed been to Canon's website as well as many other places. The specs that you list are all on the original PIXMA Pro 9500 printer. Canon doesn't say anywhere what has changed and the only thing I can find is the ability to print 16-bit files. It seems odd to introduce this as a new model if all you've done is improved some software, so I'm trying to find out what else has changed -- something else must have been improved to justify calling it a MkII model, right?
The first line says, 'Canon is famous for offering series updates to its high-end imaging products rather than completely refreshing them.", but then never really discusses what it means by this in relation to this printer, and other than saying it looks like the old version and perhaps being a touch slower, doesn't mention much about the printer in comparison to the old version.
For me, Canon calling the printer a MkII begs the question, "What's different?" Yet no one really addresses this obvious question -- from Canon to the couple of reviews I've seen.
Faster is the only real improvement from what I've heard. Unfortunately Canon is guilty of false advertising, I received an email offer from Canon offering the 9500 Mark 2 for $649.99 through July 2nd. Tried ordering it online and the page was dead. Called Canon and was told the the sale price is $749.99, I brought up the email I got and after being put on hold was told that they couldn't sell me the printer at any price, weird! The Mark 1 has exceptional print quality, small format, but worked well for proofs, short runs and greeting cards. The ink is expensive even at $12.50 per tiny cartridge.
Slightly OT but not by much. I am in the market for a new printer & was seriously considering the Canon 9500 (probably the Mk II). Those of you who have the original, are you happy with your choice? If given the choice again would you go with the 9500 or something different?
Image quality is very good with the Mark 1. It does produce some glazing with darker colors if you print highly saturated images. It handles a large variety of papers and there are many profiles available from paper manufactures. I've been very satisfied up until recently. It's currently in the shop because it isn't using the Gary and Photo Cyan inks I've owned this for almost two years and have sold many images from it. My main complaint would be the ink cost, the ink cartridge replacement prompt is bogus, I've had to replace many a cartridge that still had ink in it. If you can find a wholesaler that can offer a decent price per cartridge ($12.50 or less) then it's not to bad. The retail is 14.95 per color and when you're printing alot they go quickly. Long story short, I've been very happy with the print results of the Mark 1 and would certainly recommend the Mark 2 for its speed improvements. I would buy it again and may have to.
I also recently got the iPF6100 and I'm totally impressed with every thing about it.
The Ambient Light Adjustment is a Windose only feature.
Best of luck!
