Damn you, Peter .... you are single-handedly outdoing us all! .... but keep them comin'

Here's a naughty one. Unfortunately for you guys, all the frontal shots were made with a different lens, so they don't qualify to be on this thread!

That's a cool shot...more please..........

Zara,

I love the two shots with the child. I really like the contrast and saturation of colors and the fall off of light towards the outer part of the photo. Care to share the lighting setup and post processing on those?

Thanks, glad you liked them :-) The lighting was outdoors natural light, overcast day, late afternoon/evening on both photos. Processing was done in Lightroom

For #1: increase in contrast and vibrance, decrease in clarity and saturation. A moderate amount of burning to darken the background, which was already quite dark as he was in a hooded stroller. Some dodging and local contrast increase to intensify the eyes.

For #2: Basically the same, though more moderate settings. I don't have access to the original for #1 right now, but here it is for #2:

Edit: Here's the original to #1:

WOW u weren't kidding those r some pretty horrid pics u've posted, just like the ones previously posted!!

I think u should send ur lens back to Canon, I am sensing excessive focus shift

I agree, I just can't get the damn lens to focus worth a sh*t. Keeps giving me these fuzzy backgrounds. Don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Zara, thanks so much for responding with the adjustments and posting the originals; very helpful. In the shot with the Popsicle stick, I really love the light to dark fade, which helps the face stand out. I also really like how the jacket fades as well. Very nicely done.

I might have some around here somewhere, but I don't see any right away. You need the tube for tight headshots of kids; the MFD is too long otherwise (unless you crop). I've found that I have to stop down to f/1.8 to have any chance of getting both eyes in focus--even when they're parallel to me--when using the tube.

Lide, I think that's a very strong photo because of the human interaction portrayed in it.

Thanks for the comment.

The photo was taken during a rehearsal dinner before the wedding day, grandma read a lovely poem for the new couple, great moment and very touching, she was 90+ years old that time...

We all thought she would pass the poem to the couple after she finished the reading, but she held it for a moment and pass it to them, acted like a young kid.

Cheers

BM Studios - the 2nd shot is stunning and a very good example of how ultra-shallow DOF should be used. But just to be a little nitpicky, I would clone out the 2 or 3 hair strands on the face of the bride.

You're kidding right !!!! Tell me you're kidding before I start nitpicking too...BTW, I was focusing on the veil in the first shot not the eyes, I know how to manual focus....didn't realize I was asking for critique...jeeeesh
