Yeah, but how many of those do you really think have compared the two cameras personally and come up with objective, repeatable conclusions based on extensive actual experience?
I'll bet most were just piggy-backing onto something they saw written on a website somewhere...
Wouldn't be much different than most "this body is better than that body" assertion here.
As has been pointed out, the chance of a decent or pro-level AF showing up on a strictly amateur camera is zero; or maybe less.
What is possible, however, is more nonsense. More MP until the IQ is crap (are we there yet?), more "features" like the useless dust technology, more video stuff in lieu of something actually useful, and higher prices or lower quality (perhaps both). Amateurs love this kind of stuff and will think they're getting something special when in reality they've been had.
Perhaps things might be *slightly* different if the world economy were better, but as it is, there's no way in heck that quality and features are both going up.. Canon is, after all, in business to make money.

Except that a fair number of the folk here have used the cameras under discussion - which is a pretty big difference, really...
Like in a few of the T1i discussion threads not so long ago? Oh and just wait for the upcoming 60D discussion threads after Canon announces it.

Actually, now that money is tight, Canon might have to give extra incentives for the consumers to buy their products, that usually means more features though.
40D is an Acura, fast enough, reliable, tight in the turns and easy on the eyes, wish it had more ... _____ (fill in the blanks)
1D3 is a Rolls, too expensive, finicky, powerful but really heavy, burlwood... _____
5D3 is a Mercedes C-Class, good pedigree, smooth performance, high aspirations, classic... ______

Hehehe... Well, T1i got itself ISO3200, peripheral illumination thingee and video right? I thought that was impressive for a Rebel.
I'm also quite hopeful that Canon will surprise us again with the 60D, which is why I'm holding out on a body upgrade. Video probably goes without saying, not sure what else it could have but a pleasant surprise for me would be a 15-20MP 1.3x sensor.
All it will take is for Nikon's D300 and successors to consistently outsell the 50D and successors and eventually Canon will give the user what they want. They may be pig headed, but they aren't stupid. They have a history of finally relenting and adding the features others have had since they first launched their DSLR's. How many times have we heard, Canon doesn't need a spot meter on a non 1 series, so they won't add it. Canon won't add a dust buster, Canon won't have LV, Canon won't have video. Never say never. Eventually Canon will stop dicking around with second rate AF on non 1 series cameras.
I'd pay $500 more for a 60D with a true pro AF system and that doesn't mean it has to be the same Af as in the 1 series.

Well the thing is, if they do give pro AF to the xxD line, where are they gonna put 5D? Full frame sensor with non pro AF or a crop sensor with pro AF?
I believe the 5D II was designed way way back so it's too late to change the AF module. It will be awkward for a while until 5D III shows up.

Canon advertised the EOS 3 has having similar materials, construction and sealing as the 1N. I have the 1998 EOS 3 brochure and it states this and even has a picture of the EOS 3 covered with rain drops. And the brochure certainly heralds the EOS 3 as a pro body. So the EOS 3 had pro body construction via EOS 1/1N standards. However the 1V one upped it with magnesium body, even better seals and twin CPUs.
Both the EOS 3 and EOS-1 and 1N body covers were plastic, and none of Canon's pro bodies prior to the 1V were weather sealed.
The xxD and 5 series models are magnesium alloy, and both have more weather sealing than previous generations of pro cameras.
For me, this is one complaint that is getting tired.

That's my point, what sort of AF would you put on the 5D3? even if it's only 15-20 points, wouldn't it kinda overlap with the 1Ds? Which one do you think people would choose? I got a feeling people will choose say a $3,500 20 point AF 5D3 over a $7,000 50point AF 1Ds4. Not sure Canon will like that.

5D II AF works great and seems well suited for a 4fps camera. I've been impressed with results from both AI-Servo and One-Shot modes. The only real limitation I have observed is outer-point hunting in low light, but, that's hardly a deal breaker for an otherwise excellent package.
I wonder how many critics have encountered problems in real-world shooting, and how many are simply reading the D700 spec sheet?

I'm hoping it's good. I love having the FF/crop combo in the bag and am learning the when and where of each tool. Higher ISO/better noise charictoristics on the 60 over my current 30D will get my money, along with the things the 50 already has, liveview, better screen, sensor dust cleaning etc. Video will be a plus too.
Please, no more megapixels. Hard drives are cheap, but I just don't want two 21 megapixel cameras. Aperture/Apple don't support sRAW, so that's not an option.
