The big issue with this is that none of the m43 or 4/3rds native lenses small enough to be interesting have focus distance scales let alone hyperfocal markings.
The body does have a good idea what the focus position is, though, as the current fourthirds cameras record it in the Exif. If the manufacturer so chose it doesn't seem it would be difficult at all to display the approximate (comparisons of the Exif value versus photos of rulers show mixed results) focus position on the LCD. A "go hyperfocal" option should be trivial as well.

One of the advantages of 4/3rds here (and m43 too) is that you're getting enough DoF at f2.8 or f4 to zone focus, or go hyperfocal at f5.6-f8, but you can still achieve shallow DoF effects unlike the smaller sensors.
How should you be able to use the shallow DOF without a viewfinder or without using LV? That was my point. I'd love this camera, but I really can't get why you'd buy it to shoot at hyperfocal, since you'd get sort of the same thing with a smaller sensor, if the lens is good.
The main reason for me, getting a camera like this, would be for its performance at low light or when wanting shallow DOF. And then I'd need to use the freakin' LCD.
I am really interested in this. One important feature for me would be that I can put the camera in one pocket and the lens in another. That will make it as pocketable as a small P&S. Not always ready, but a good compromise between comfort and image quality. A 35mm-equiv f2.8 pancake lens is a killer app for me.

You'd need to use LV for really effective shallow-DoF work. but you can hipshoot at hyperfocal. The big thing is that this is a pocketable camera which can do both, a rarity (the DP1/DP2 being the only other real option for that).

Yep, I agree. I'd be very happy if I could get that on my G1 as well.

I'm also interested. Any more news on this? The pen50th site that used to say next update May 9 now says May 16 & I don't see any update.

This is going to be a pocketable version of 40f2/5D2 for me. My 5D2 doesn't fit in my pocket, so sometimes it's a pain to carry casually.
In your previous post, you said 35mm EQUIV, and I missed the equiv, sorry!

I thought it would have the video finder micro-4/3's thing going on. I have much less interest if this is an LCD only camera.
The G1 finder is a fairly massive assembly, that prism hump is fully filled. Oly had to ditch it to get the smaller size, or go with a far inferior EVF. Looks like they took the first option.
There _may_ be a hotshoe EVF like the Ricoh GX100/GX200 offers. I hope so. Otherwise it's going to be optical hotshoe finder time.
