p.1 #1 · I am in love with the Sony A900

I feel like a child at Christmas time. But this camera just rocks.

These are just snap shots in the office. But look at the colors and smoothness. No post processing at all!

Oh yea, Zeiss 16-35 zoom.

This one is at f2.8 1/30th

This one is f4 1/15 Hand held !

Jorge - Thought you were on to Leica's?

BTW - the ZF 35/2 rocks on the D700!

p.1 #7 · I am in love with the Sony A900

I just received an A900 + Zeiss 24-70 two days ago and am planning on giving it a trial run down to Page, AZ this weekend.

So far, it seems to be set up pretty similarly to the A700.

One thing that's not immediately obvious to me:

in local area focus you can select the focal point with the controller but in wide area focus it seems to want to always use the focal point that corresponds to the nearest subject rather than the center of FOV. what am I doing wrong?

I saw today that Adorama has advertisements up for renting an a900, 70-200/2.8, 24-70/2.8, 84/1.4, and grip all for $100 for a day! If that still goes for the over-the-weekend deal I might try it out just for fun some time.

you need to move the subject to the center of the fram and recompose. you can also hold down the joy stick and it will focus using only the center.

You may also want to set your zone to -1 for better metering. I find this works much better than exp compensation.

let me know what youthink of the 24-70. I only have the 16-35, 85 and 135 for now.

I was considering the 85, but all i keep reading is how the CA is so bad on the lens. Anyone with experience on this?

Joe,

I love my Minolta 85....here is a shot with a kenko extension tube on it...

I have a Ziess ZF version of the 85 and it is incredibly sharp....this shot was taken in a dark club with the only light at the stage....from the back of the room...about 150feet or 45m from the stage...

So far, I've barely gotten it out of the box and taken some test shots around the house.
Hopefully it'll get some use this weekend.

here a walkup at 24mm (f2.8/5/10)

Tony
Is the Minolta the D version or earlier. Nice pics with the Ziess.
Low light is no problem.

The CA on the 85 is pretty bad when you have strong dark/light contrasting. But if you can get past that, it's definitely a keeper.

What raw converter do you use for the A900? I am ordering an A900 and have read mixed reviews about ACR.

Thanks
