I call them photographs.

>>>Sure you can make one up for any pic. What's the story on the woman in the red print dress heading out into the field?

Let the image stir up your own story....

I was being a tad, er, sarcastic about the Ukraine comment.

No, no, Peter. A pic has to have something going on in it to generate a story in your imagination. There is nothing going on with her. Maybe escaping the photographer? Now that's a story, come to think of it.

Pilles, if it stimulates your imagination, that's fine, if it doesn't, that's alright too. When you say there is nothing going on with her please keep in mind that that is only for you, everybody sees and relates to things differently.

I think he wants a sign in each which says "Russia", or perhaps the Kremlin in the background of each.

I really like this series, especially the looking for papa (I just recently watched Alexander Nevsky and the fields looked like something I could have seen in that movie...also, that 135/2 is my favorite lens for the very reason your image shows why) and also particular enjoyed the grandmother storytelling - very good mood to it and the title fit it perfectly.

Georgia O"Keefe did the same type of shots for the Dust Bowl pics in the depression, and these could have come directly from that collection. Hers were captioned too, even with her name and reputation, so captioning is necessary for news location shots, but I'd like to see informational environment involved in other country shots..

Georgia O'Keefe was a painter, primarily of the American southwest, and a friend of Ansel Adams and Alfred Steiglitz. Maybe you are not as knowledgable as you think you are, or your memories are fading.

Eugene Cunningham, Dorthea Lange are two of the more well known photographers sent to document the depression. There were others, but maybe you can take the time to research this era for yourself.
