I figured I toss my $0.02 of a flare from last night's engagement session. I am on the fence about it, but they loved it so here it is. http://www.tomspaderphotography.com/dawn2.jpg
Mark,
Thank you and it's funny you are replying from the NL, please don't take this wrong, but as they were hugging I asked them to keep kissing but put a little space between their bodies. Her reply was she felt like (what is sort of common here in the US) the figurines of the boy and girl in over-sized wooden shoes kissing. My grandmother had a set of those and they were separate ceramic pieces and you displayed them with just their lips touching. Again, I apologize as I am not throwing a stereotype out there and you more than likely don't even know our odd reference.
Anyway, thanks for the reply and since the OP was "How do I ..." the info on this shot is:
Canon 5D, ISO 50, 70-200 2.8 set to 115mm at f/8 at 1/1600sec, auto wb. No post added yet.

You want perfect lens flare with green and magenta circles? those are hard to find, its like looking for treasure.
That probably is what most folks want, or a "perfect" white starburst effect. Jeremy's example is incredible, as is Quan's #1 . The problem is that most of the time (not always) you also get a terrible loss of overall contrast. I wonder if there is indeed a "formula" for controlling this effect?
I'm sort of considering painting the inside of a lens hood white, or maybe coat it with aluminum foil, to see what that would do.
I know what you mean :-)
Hey, it's better having people talk about you regarding wooden shoes, windmills and cheese than not talking about you at all ........

But yeah, if the client is paying me, I am basically their slave. If they want me to take pictures in nude, I will do it too. Everyone has a price. Haha...
If you are nude, be careful when you are folding up your tripod
Just wondering.... Does a full frame get flares better than crops? Because all the good flares here are taken with the 5D... I can't get any flares with my XSi (1.6x crop)...
