I bought a 70-200 IS from him, and he is a great seller! Fast communication, very responsive and the lens is indistinguishable from brand new. It was packed perfectly too.
I highly recommend and would not hesitate to deal with him again.
I can't say enough good things about Bob. I have bought and sold a number of items on this forum but I have never encounter anyone as accomodating, honest, and nice as Bob Stanton.
If Bob ever has anything to sell or buy you can be assured of the best deal and service possible.
First item bought on this forum. Joe was gentle, thoughtful, and took the time to address all of my concerns. Lens better than advertised! Highly recommend.
Pretty curious how this turned out, the buyer was gracious enough to respond:
Hi - I don't mean to be nosey, but I am very curious about the Canon
400mm lens you've just bought, it was an object of much speculation -
would you tell me if there are problems with it, other than cosmetic? Do
you intend to use it as is, or will you have it rebuilt? Just curious.
Thanks

It was in decent shape. The seller was a newspaper staffer and very
pleasant to deal with. It does not need rebuilding but the focusing
mechanism needs some work ... whether just something to keep the
group fixed in place or a whole new focusing unit, I don't know. That
problem precludes using TCs for the most part, although without TCs
it takes very nice photos (just shot a kids soccer game ... nice!).
The
body mount works but has a little too much play to suit me. The
hood's mounting flanges are hosed and will make a nice project for
someone at a machine shop later on in AK (hopefully working for
trade). Meanwhile I have a very nice $3 hood made from a
plastic nursery pot and some adhesive backed foam weatherstriping.
Fits like magic. All in all though the lens was a great deal, even if
it winds up needing a whole new focuser.
The cosmetics aren't all that bad really. Just looks well worn. Fine
by me because it is likely to be exposed to the Great Outdoors and
put down on the ground or gravel or rocks .... Lot more convenient
than having to carry a big tarp/blanket/whatever; I can just carry a
little tarp/blanket/whatever for the shiny lenses.
As much as some of us have looked at the discheveled lens with amusement, it has seen some great moments in sports, from Atlanta Olympics to Sugarbowl to ....??, probably been to more big time events, stood on the sidelines and endzones, than many of us will ever in our lifetime.
Just bought a 300mm f/2.8 IS lens today from Jack and he is a super nice, honest guy. Pretty damn good photographer to boot. The lens was perfect, exactly as described and Jack was great to deal with...
I would buy more equipment from him anytime, even sight unseen just based on his description.
One problem with getting a lens in that shape is; how will you explain it to your wife/husband when they say "How MUCH did you say you paid for that thing ??"
Bought off-camera shoe cord 2 from DannyNYC, AKA Daniel Thiem a few days ago. Received item today well packed and can't tell the difference from new. Highly recommended and will not hesitate to deal with him again.
