Very Nice Tmronin! Some of the best ring flash shots I've seen. They don't look overly flashy or flat at all.
aww..thx! those were shot at SNAPM and they are helped by 2 profoto heads with bare 7" reflectors providing back/side light. it's the 36" moon unit that really makes that rig sing.
Ring flash - Venessa. The flash also woks as a wonderful fill flash out of doors or in studio. As you see from other examples, it can be "invisible". It is also useful as a general purpose flash in the studio in an umbrella. It can provide interesting body contours as below.

Here is the homemade ringlight. I wired twelve 120W R40 floodlights inside a piece of PVC that was heated and bent into a circle. The unit hangs from my rail system, but others who have these have attached it to a bracket or a stand. Four bent rods hold a 50 inch scrim (with a circle cut to shoot through. I like the catchlights that the big light shows in the eyes. There's enough light to shoot handheld - I like to use the 135/2 or 85/1.2 wide open for a very soft look - all that's in focus are the eyes.
What a great setup & the results are just excellent. Thanks for showing the setup - I'm off to B&Q (UK hardware store) to get some PVC pipe & 120W fittings.
