Had some fun shooting ducks today. Didn't manage to get any real good captures (just when I had a duck fly against a nice background, the little bugger darted in the wrong direction. ...image No.1), however, what strikes me is that such as they are, to my eye the images carry a "fingerprint" unique to the 200 f/2 IS (possibly 200 f/1.8 as well).
Anyways, here are a few from a CFL football game last summer when I had the chance to borrow one for a few days. If anyone out there is familiar with Ivor Wynne Stadium, aka: Ivor Dim Stadium, you know it gets really dark there for night games. ISO 3200 ranging from 1/500 to 1/800 @ f/2.
I think if I was in the market for a 300 2.8 and money wasn't a primary consideration, I'd get the 200 f/2 over the current 300 2.8 IS. Image degradation with the 1.4x TC isn't significant and is still quite close to the 300 (tested them side by side) yet the IS in the 200 is much better.

Thanks! 10 years ago I used to do the same thing at that stadium with Kodak TMZ... funny how even though the technology changes, some things stay the same.

I went to the lake today with the intent to do swallows in flight with the 200 f/2 + 1DMkIIN combo. Alas, saw no swallows worth pursuing. Instead, turned the camera to my stunt pijuns and gave the lens (and the camera even more so) a good workout. The lens superlarge aperture as well as a speedy AF drive help camera's AF system quite a bit. These pijuns were photographed in full power flight, some 40-50 ml/hr ground speed, depending on wind direction.
Servo AF, Manual mode, 3 FPS, obviously handheld, IS turned off in order to eliminate its effect of fast focusing.
The aperture was: f/2.8, f/2.2 and f/3.2.
The first shot was the luckiest one.....almost point blank shooting. One needs to stop down a lot for that sort of proximity....which I didn't do, so the DoF was thin.

Peter,
Nice shots, but I believe your SKILL is more than the lens itself.
I am debating if I should buy the lens now even I know that I may not use it enough, but just want it due to my experiences from the 200/1.8L and Nikon 200/2.0 VR.
Any 200/2.0L IS owners have shots of sexy models with this lens, note just the birds ? lol....
