Needs a trip to canon to have it calibrated, that's all
Wow, imagine how much that'd cost? I'm guessing there's no way they'd even touch it, probably have to send it to like 1 of 2 people in Japan at the plant that know it well enough.
If you're spending that much on a lens, you might as well buy it a first class seat and fly it to Japan. Free booze....

I agree I don't think there is a lens made that Peter has had in his collection that he hasn't gotten a Duck or ducks in flight shot.
I heard through the grapevine that Peter's MPE shots are at 5x.
Luis and Robert, I am truly flattered by your faith in my DIF prowess. If you could please each contribute a measly sum of $500 US towards my MPE 65mm Macro purchase, I shall undertake to do my best to capture some DIF with it.
You see, I have just ordered a backup 200 f/1.8 and my wife is not prepared to dole out one more penny towards my collecting sickness at this time.

And I thought you said you quit buying You truly are the king of the collectors having backups for 80-200L and now the 200 1.8
I hate to tell you this you can't have my 50 1.0L as you backup, because it has no box.

I don't care about the 50 f/1.0 box so much....the priority would be to get a lens which is reasonably sharp wide open (if the term "sharp" can be used in the context of f/1.0, that is ).
Well, I also have a backup 300 f/4 non-IS.....yet another Canon's top lens which is out of production.
The backup 28-80L I got rid of because it just wasn't quite on the IQ level of my principal 28-80L, which is a real pitty.

This time it's a (9+) lens priced at $120k even.
Robert (Burningheart), this may be your last opportunity to own one of those.
of course now that canon has such a high quality 800mm that also takes the 1.4xTC nearly as well as any lens does I wonder if the 1200mm hasn't lost a bit of cache.
hmm then again the 800+TC is not f/5.6....
i better run to the bank and take out some money (my own as well as some from a few hundred other accounts) and get this.

About 80 mm short. Can't get by with 1120 mm when you need 1200!
It's for SDIF (shy ducks in flight).

Those pitted elements can lower contrast, can't they? So you like the softness of your principal 28-80L?

Nevermind the cost; the weight, size, lack of IS and serviceability of the lens alone are major deterrents making ownership a headache. You could easily simulate the 1200mm with a 50D + 800mm.

Wonder where burningheart is at.
Enjoying the lens he has, no need for anymore, I'm have been cutting back my collection.
I was looking at the max supporting weight of the Manfrotto Pro Fluid Video HEad 516 and it is spec'd for 10kg while the 1200L itself is 16.5kg. Wouldn't that break the head?

The 800+1,4x is really good and sharp even wide open.
