That's not the same filter. This one has a 105mm front thread (and a 82mm rear thread). It ist build for extreme wide angles. But 523$ for this filter is still a ridiculous price. Mine has no front thread and the glass is only 82mm.

Not the same league as Schott / Rodenstock glass, but here are Hoya MC filters in 82mm up to ND8 (0.9)

I'm surprised no one mentioned the Singh Ray Vari-ND as an option. I have the 82mm version. I find it to be a bit tricky to use toward the dark end, the 5 - 8 stop part of its 2 - 8 stop range. On wide shots, I would sometimes end up with a centre darker than the corners but shooting longer focal lengths allowed for more use of its range.

all of the filters we are talking about are denser than 0.9. we are talking 2.0 and 3.0 filters.

the Vari-ND Duo, which is the one i now have, barely makes 5 stops and has uneven density at that level. the Vari-ND without the Duo is useless because it doesn't have a CPL for reflection control. i've been disappointed in all of the VariND filters i have owned over the years because of these problems. the times i can use them are times when there are simpler solutions that yield higher quality results.

Herb, I'm sorry, I don't know if Heliopan ships to the US. But you can contact them at [email protected]

Best regards,

Boris
