Your last image is your best in my opinion (clarity, pop, color). The first pitcher image is not very complimentary to the pitcher (tongue sticking out) and the first base camera view of the pitcher is too much back for my taste.
I like the pictures, you got his eyes just right in #1 with real intensity. I'm surprised he doesn't bite his tongue off in the swing effort but I guess it's worked for him so far.
Good job, but you know me, I'm all about improvement so here is some constructive criticism:
1) Nice expression (yes, I like the Jordan-esque tongue thing), nice sharpness and great light. Would have been better without the center fielder in the BG but now I'm picking nits.
2) Not a fan of back shots - period. Would have been 100% better from the other side. Some pitcher shots from the "oblique" angle can work - this is from somewhere around the lead-off circle, taken from the back, with the pitcher peeking over his lead shoulder towards the plate.
3) OK, but my preference on these shots is getting them just when the ball is released. It's closer to the peak action point and you tend to get better facial expression
4)The Gopher's face is a little soft (that's a sentence that may have never been used in the history of the English language) and the base runner is right on the outside edge of the DOF. When expecting a play at second, I normally stop down a bit to increase the DOF. You might not have been able to with the light you had.
Overall not bad for a quick 20 minute shoot at the ball yard. What are the restrictions you have on positioning, Professor?

When i Do go out to shoot I plan on doing remotes for first base and maybe shortstop.

My editor said the same thing. I completely agree, If i am going to go for the clean BG style...then i should do it right.

this might be the only thing that i disagree with. the SS is tack. I was fluttering on the edge of slow shutter speeds, im not sure exactly. For my remote the DOF will def be stopped down.

the positioning is afwul. NO ONE can go on the field and EVERYONE (local paper, student paper, AP) has the same access. we are getting a new field next year though. WOOT WOOT
