I've had my MuVo 4gb on order from Amazon for about a month and they still do not have an expected ship date.
My fear is that production is limited on this item -- the reason being that they may be revamping the production line to solder the 4gb drive in place rather than having a salvageable hard drive.
I read on another forum that Creative is going to cripple the 4GB drives so they can't be used in your camera. The mini iPod is already this way so everyone who has one ordered may be a day late and a dollar short on the great deal this was.
I received my Muvo yesterday after waiting a month (my original order was on 1/23). The drive was not soldered in and works great in my cameras. Be patient, my guess is yours will arrive soon.
This reports that HITACHI (not Creative) plans to "embed" the drive so it allows smaller iPods etc (nanoPod??) and, BTW, means it won't be removable. However, it's a plan, not an accomplished objective, so supply chains should be OK for a while.
I have my fingers crossed that Amazon will ship tomorrow, as their email confirmation of my order indicated
I ordered mine directly from Creative and got it a few days later (end of January). On a photo session on Feb. 15th, I took 992 photo (jpeg fine) and it took less than half the space (about 1.8 gig). It is slow and it wouldn't work well for high speed sports on a 1D but for portraits, it's just fine.
Mine arrived from Amazon about a week ago (I believe I waited about a month). Took it apart, took out drive... works fine in both 1Ds and 10D (FAT32 format). I don't believe it will work in the 1D as I don't think 1D supports FAT32. In the 1D, it will probably work as a 2GB drive.
I also put a 1GB solid state CF card back in the MuVo and have a nice working MP3 player with 1GB memory. Not sure I'll leave the 1GB card in the MP3 as it really is more useful in a camera. I couln't get a 512 or 256 card to work in the MP3 player though, in spite of different formats, etc. Must be something in the MP3 firmware.
You open up the MP3 player, remove the 4GB Compact Flash format microdrive and use it like any other Compact Flash card. The reason folks are doing this is because they want a high capacity card and this is much cheaper than buying one sold as "just" a microdrive ($200 vs ~$450)
Has anyone actually gotten a muvo latley, Are they still selling these?? I'm going to call up creative and find out if I can still order these, I really don't want to miss out on this deal.
Mine (ordered from Amazon) was delivered to my office late today -- and I left work early. Hmm.. gotta remember to throw a phillips screwdriver into my briefcase.
