Thank you so much CP and Karl! I think gardening and photography go hand in hand..I find myself growing these special bulbs, cause I really enjoy making these images. Again..thank you for looking and enjoy the comments.
Here is one from last evening.
I must practice and get better with Whites as well....
tbartick, "I must practice and get better with Whites as well".
when shooting white to retain detail try shooting picture style neutral. i was reading in the canon learning center a discussion on picture styles in particular white wedding gowns and how neutral pulls out details in a white on white environment. the old light bulb went off in my head. i went back to some shots of white orchids that i had and i re-post processed with picture style neutral. mind u these are some very good shots, shot in picture style standard. to my amazement more detail was pulled from the orchid shots. expose for the white as not to clip. if one blows the high light detail they can not be recovered. with the new sliders in DPP you can pull the shadows (i only shoot RAW and pp in dpp).
....I had thought that when you shoot "raw" the picture style set in camera, did not matter at all. When imported into a program such as ACR which I use, that was the time you can add a custom picture style...?
I will attempt tonight with my picture style set in camera to "neutral" and see how it goes.
My issue is with my flowers, I don't like the darker shadows of the background too dark...I try and meter a happy medium, then try different moves in ACR and Photoshop CS4 to bring the highlights down and detail back in leaving the background to blend in without dark shadows!! In the end, all about choices I suppose.
I will keep plucking away at this...Thank you so much..terry
i think picture styles is canon proprietary and only works in Canon DPP. i could be wrong though. i only use DPP for RAW processing so i am not familiar with ARC.

ACR does have picture styles...gives us a choice, Faithfull..Landscape..Neutral etc...You can select one at a time to see which works with the photo. Might not be "exactly" the same as DPP...I bet comes very close though.
I have read on here folks talking about programing it to a certain camera? It was over my head -:0).. I tried!

Thanks for looking. terry
Nice shots, Terry. The Whites came out very well.
We had a very nice, Front lite, no wind day for a change....The bulbs are actually in a pot, I was able to move it around for better lighting, and background choices.
Do you happen to know the flower in your last shot? I really like interesting blooms.
