p.1 #1 · #335 Which Way?

Not feeling particularly inspired this week. This is the latest in a string of very difficult topics (for me, anyway). It's good to see all the different ideas coming out.

Thanks for looking,
Rich

This is what happens when you're not particularly inspired? Oh, I get green with envy. It's an excellent shot and well matches the theme.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

I'll have to agree with "This is the latest in a string of very difficult topics", but yours is very inspiring! The horizon in the middle is very effective. How cold is this? Frozen lake?
Great entry! -Jamie

Wonderful feeling of space, and I can't see his expression, but I can sense it, great body language capturing the theme very well.

You sell yourself short. I enjoy looking at your pictures, and often wish I had your ideas. Thank-you for the generous comment.

Jamie:

The horizon just sort of worked out that way. This is a wide stretch of the Ottawa River (see link below if I've pasted it properly), and it is certainly frozen. I don't recall the exact temperature that day other than it was below freezing and there was a bitter wind blowing out of the east. The ice is normally covered with snow, but we had some thawing and then a deep freeze. I'm getting a little tired of winter about now...

Many thanks for your very kind comment.

I walked about 0.5km (1/3mi) from the spit of land that shows about the middle of the map.

I cheated a bit and used a WA lens to exaggerate the size difference between the person (me) and the opposite shore, to create the feeling of space/distance. But it truly is a wide open space.

Thank-you so much for your comment.

First I was green, now I am red. Next I'll be looking like a traffic light…..

Thanks Deke. Though I'm quite tired of the ice... and the snow and the cold temperatures and ...

Works fine for me Rich. If you're tired of the cold you should try the same shoot in the wide open spaces of hot dry outback! Very well done on this one.

I like the subject isolation and minimal elements in the shot. Gives a feeling of a large expanse, even if it is a crazy wide angle shot. Subtly interesting sky too, but not overpowering or distracting.

Rich,
Thank you for posting the link. Pretty amazing when you see it in this perspective. The frozen water itself (as you described not being covered with snow) really adds to the feel of the image. Thanks again! -Jamie

Bill:

Yes, we should all be careful what we wish for.

IIRC, you are in the Perth area. I've read about ongoing drought in the east, not to mention an extremely bad bush fire season. Are you affected?

Anyway, thank-you so much for your comment.
