Those look particularly good! What's the keeper rate, focus wise?

For those who have gotten them back, did you receive a tracking email?? Mine was in shipping today at noon and if shipped today I'd have it tomorrow. They cannot tell me if it shipped but said I would get an email from Fed ex when it was scanned, which I did not get. I am hoping is shipped and they dont send the email.

Did anyone get that shipping confirmation email??

Andy

I never got an e-mail logging it in or when it was shipped. I had to call and get them to check the status to get the repair number on Monday after they insisted if I hadn't gotten an e-mail from them it wasn't logged in. Well after a few minutes on hold they came back and gave me the repair tracking number and told me the work was completed and being reviewed. I had to give them my email a second time. I was able to track it on their repair site at that point but it never showed that it shipped until the next day. I never got an email telling me it shipped so keep after them and check their site frequently, don't count on an email.

I shot a track meet with the 1DMKIII after getting it back yesterday and it performed perfectly. AF aquisition and tracking was excellent in very flat, overcast evening light. I had cfn III-8 on 2, III-4 on 1 and III-2 one notch below the center. I hadn't noticed any problems before so I'm just happy that they didn't screw it up. It's probably all in my head but when I reviewed shots on the lcd and zoomed in they struck me as much clearer than I had remembered them.

For the mainland Europeans amongst us: I just received my phonecall from Canon France. My 1D3 is going in this Friday and should be ready one week later (CPS member). I'm dropping it off myself so doing the UPS procedure might take a few days extra. Keeping my fingers crossed!

If the tennis thing mentioned by the CPS guys is true, than that's very encouraging.

I had my 1DS fixed at Irvine last week and it is MUCH better on the outer focus points (which I use primarily).

Just my .02

Just got the UPS label ... does everyone get ground? Or is there a way to get air?

I usually shoot center point but do shoot ring of fire, assist and sometimes outer points but haven't had much of a chance to exercise them yet (will in spring) so I sent it in. Your post is encouraging and glad to hear your 1Ds has improved!

That first link is entirely useless as far as determining whether this recall is effective, The person sent in the 1D3 and 3 lens, had them all calibrated (to each other reportedly), and is elated his MA works for all distances now (undoubtedly due to the lens calibration). He obviously had some lens issues that were fixed. And he hadn't even looked at the images on a computer yet!

my AF has been fairly consistent since getting my camera. However i never had to really use AF servo too much. When the time came for me to shoot some sports games I started to notice some OOF frames in my sequences.

If this fix is really the one, then I'll drop it off at Irvine personally.

You know something doesnt quite add up, does it. If this fix addresses just the outer points as stated, are we to believe that at the Australian Open, and I guess really, everywhere, the problems were just with outer focus points? After all that is all this supposedly addresses. IF it had 100% success at the Open I can't imagine they were testing just outer focus points and that is all they mean. More likely that, I hope, this addresses more than outer focus. We will see. Mine is in for the 4th time. Get it back today. Early reports are at least encouraging, but I could say that about other "fixes" as well.

I am thinking the Open and the early reports have more to due with the new calibration set up then the focus points. I mean the reports are saying washers etc replaced...so to me that sounds like a tuning issue?

Either way I am thinking now that I might send mine in. I am having no issues so it is sort of scary to intruduce something that might not be there now....

I sent mine in yesterday I live in Tennessee and it is on its way to Irvine Ca. They are suppose to fix it so I don't get the 99 error when the weather gets below 30 degrees. I also have trouble with rapid fire where only 1/2 of my images are in sharp focus. Upd. the software. Clean up the camera and check the AF focus points in the AI servo mode. Anyway I sent in a long list of things I believed may be defective or need adjustments. I also expect to get a 6 months extended warranty. I expect the camera to be perfect when I get it back.

Well just to report on a mk3 repair via a phone call. 2 washers were replaced and AF adjustments with updated firmware. But I found the firmware comment interesting because I updated the firmware to current just prior to shipping it to Canon. Does anyone have an Idea what these washers do that they have been replacing? Oh BTW this was a blue dot camera with no prior repairs sn 544xxx. Prior to sending in it was a fairly consistent shooter, but I had always felt it could be sharper using outer points and for that reason I would shoot center point as much as possible. We shall see! I shoot 95% sports and a lot of 300 2.8 with and without a 1.4.

Next up, the DsMK3 once the Mk3 is home.

My 1Ds3 arrived in VA on Monday. It's in my hands today, they shipped it back via 2-day FedEx.

No battery or lens at work, will play tonight (when there's no bright sun nor heat )

Just received my mkIII back. Repair notes state:

"We have examined the product according to your request, and, it was found that the adjustment of the AF assembly was incorrect causing inaccurate auto focus from time to time. The AF assembly was reworked. Replaced mirror box ass'y and washers. Adjusted focus, exposure & cleaned C-mos. Update firmare. Checked all factory specs."

Haven't had a chance to play with it yet.

Shipped mine Thursday of last week and it comes back tomorrow, we shall see...
Also, does anyone know if the AF assembly adjustment will affect MA's? That oughta be fun doing that again
