Here's what I already bought this year. Yah full time civil service jobs!
-Canon 1ds Mk ii Used with 875 Actuations ($2700 at Calumet NYC)- The thing is basically new for less that I paid for my original 5D, actually new.
-Canon 90mm TS-E f/2.8 - Will be my stock workhorse glued to my 5D
-Canon Powershot G10 - All those SLRs are way too heavy to bring everywhere - this is just for the fun moments in life when I'm not thinking about commercialism.
I have a steady job, and am glad to help the economy where I can, but I'm looking at 2009 as the time for me to really step up my game.
Current wishlist:
- Handful of Zuiko manual primes (for video and low-light, and because I enjoy shooting manual glass), without spending too much.
- 35L (based on my initial impressions of the 35mm focal length, later in the year once I've confirmed its the 'right' fl for me)
- 1.4x TC
- Maybe something longer than 200mm, either a 400/5.6 or 100-400
- Still pondering a Contax N 24-85 (converted to EOS).
It's actually enough money to get two items from the list, but I want to save some for traveling too (= fun photo ops). Right now 50L is most likely and 24LII least. I'll definitely get 5DII some day, but for now I'm extremely happy with the original 5D, so I think that the money is better spent on a new lens.
- 5D Mark II
- Extra Battery for 5D Mark II
- 3 UDMA CF Cards (4 and 8GB)
- 580EX II
- 85mm 1.8
- Elinchrom D-Lite 4 To Go Set
- Elinchrom Umbrella Reflectors (2)
- Ellinchrom 8.25" Reflectors (2)
- Elinchrom 33" Shoot-through Umbrella
- Elinchrom 33" Black/Silver reflective Umbrella
- Elinchrom Skyport Radios (1 Transmitter, 3 Receivers)

- Lowepro Flipside 300 Backpack
- ThinkTank Digital Holster 20
Thankfully, I've sold a bit of gear to help counteract (a small part) of the financial shock of the buying!
My least favorite purchase of 2009 is the $318 I spent to have my 100-400 calibrated at Canon Irvine!!! They didn't get it right the first time and it is STILL at Canon Irvine for the second trip. They've had it more than a week on the second trip and there seems to be no way for me to check the status online.
400 2.8 L IS
and with that im bowing out of the gear purchases for the rest of the year...
than again there is the abr-800....and the 5d m2 and the 85 1.2 and .....
Don't think I'll be buying much or anything this year. Getting an FJ Cruiser soon that should be able to take me places my car won't haha. Although I may end up switching from a Sigma 150-500 to a 70-200 f4 IS. I find I don't need that much range for my shooting.
Unrealistically, for me, I'd like to get a 5D2, but for now I'll just have to do with stitching a few images together if detail is needed.
