Deke, I believe you have a winner here! Wonderful colors, composition, and DOF. But most importantly you have captured the very essence of learning. Very precious! Welcome to the Forum! -Jamie
Thank you for the kind words. The "learning" comes on several different levels...I too am just learning the basics of what capturing an image is. Thanks again!
Thanks for the comments. I am really enjoying the site and learning a lot from reading comments on different posts. Hope I am able to pick up some of the technique many people have mastered.

Add my voice to the chorus of congratulations on your first attempt here. Great use of selective focus, nice close crop, and very well suited to the theme. Well done!
I appreciate your comments! I'm really interested in the use of selective focus. I need to take some time to look through the forums and experience what others have done.
I was so fascinated at first that I didn't spot it at first and just noticed it. Is she wearing pajamas? If so, it doesn't go very well with the shoes. Pajamas are for indoors while shoes are for outdoors.
Great eye! Look even closer and you'll notice that her top and bottoms don't match either...I guess that's the beauty of not setting up a shot. We were getting ready to go outside and play in the snow (pj's for extra warmth). Funny part is she wanted to wear her shoes outside...Mom quickly convinced her to put her snow pants and boots on! I stayed with this picture because of the color, though after I saw it, wondered if it would look better set up with cloths. I decided against it.
Very nice shot! This image immediately brought back memories of my now 11 year old daughter learning to tie her shoes and her practicing over and over for weeks. You definitely have my vote.
Interesting how those memories stick with us. I actually remember trying to master this myself! Here I am some 35 years later with memories of frustration (and determination). Thanks for the comment!
Mark-
Like I mentioned before, stumbling on to shot is pretty fulfilling! Thanks Mark.
